Thanks! have been buying since mid-January but you’re right I have been going fast. The pace has accelerated during quarantine. I never used to have this kind of time. Just posted my goals earlier today. Still have a long way to go. At this stage I’m not really starting to collect new sets, just finish and upgrade the many sets that I’ve started.
It’s been pretty nuts keeping up with the packages. It’s been many packages daily for quite some time. It’s going to be slowing down for a bit though, at least that’s what I tell my wife…
Ya my fiance gets on my case all the time about spending money on cards. I tell her someday she will thank me and show her how much they are worth. It only temporarily works usually tho she’s like sell them! I’m like babe that’s not how it works I have to wait till were older first. She doesn’t like this response haha but I collect on anyways
@jonandek Collecting Pokemon cards is a win win. We get to enjoy them as long as we have them and if anything does come up years down the line or partial retirement plan we can always sell everything and end up with a profit. There is a million worse ways you could blow money. Shopping sprees at the mall. Gambling problems. Drinking or worse problems. Not many gamblers have stories of winning a ton and cashing out. It’s all stories of how they lost everything. I know this is all random but it does corelate back to buying cards is enjoyable and close to risk free. I know there is always that chance of cards going down but if you’re in it for the long haul it doesn’t matter because prices go back up. My slogan is Keep collection as long as humanly possible haha maybe even pass them on to my nephew
Thanks! Probably not much sealed in the future for me. Honestly, it’s too tempting for me to open it, and it doesn’t spark the same joy as set cards. I think sealed is the best pure investment but for that I look to other areas outside of pokemon. I have the 1st jungle box sealed but originally bought it to open it. Thankfully I came to my senses on that one and didn’t touch it.
I used to have two sealed alpha starters in magic and a sealed starter deck box of beta. I fantasized about opening them literally almost every day. Finally did open one of the alpha starters. I traded the rest away.
AMAZING collection put together in (a historically?) impressive time!
I wanted to ask a question about that Chansey: From a purely aesthetic standpoint, would you prefer a Chansey with a scratched holo (e.g., like that one) and with rest of the card being virtually flawless, or a Chansey with a virtually flawless holo but an extremely small and minor dent on the back of the card?
Thanks! And great question. I would obviously prefer a 10. But in terms of a 9, I would prefer a chansey like the one I have, because it is as you describe. Other than the holo scratches it’s a 10. I was really excited when I first got it because it looked like a mis-grade (in my favor). I had to put it under the light to see the holo scratches. They aren’t visible most of the time, I had to catch the angle just right to show them in the pic. That’s one reason I’m patient waiting for the 10.
I believe 90% of us who live with our significant others go through this. The fact they let us live out those fun childhood feelings again and don’t squash them lets us know they’re awesome!
I get overly jacked up talking about the market/growth/artworks. I tend to catch myself mumbling, then realizing she isn’t listening anymore, haha!
