Darren here from Johto Times. I am making a post here (with permission) to bring attention to the Johto Times Favourite Pokémon Poll 2025 edition. The goal is to reach as many Pokémon fans as possible, and determine which Pokémon is the fans’ favourite. Between May 17th and July 31st, 2025, Johto Times will run a poll for each Pokémon generation, from Kanto to Paldea, and invite Pokémon fans to cast their vote on their favourites!
Participants can vote for their six favourite Pokémon in each poll.
Each poll will run for ten weeks, between May 17th and July 31st, 2025.
In August 2025 we will reveal the results of each poll, and the top ten Pokémon from each will move through to the grand final, which will take place later that month.
Please spread the word and tell your friends!
Update: 22nd May (Clarification): Pokémon which are tied jointly within the top ten will progress to the grand final. For example, if by the end of the poll, two Pokémon have the same number of votes in tenth position, both of these Pokémon will progress through to the grand final.
Full details and updates will be available on this link moving forward, please bookmark it for future reference:
I look forward to hearing your thoughts, and discussion around which Pokémon you will be voting for, or which Pokémon characters you think will win!
@lemonofpromise First of all, ranking 100+ Pokémon would take a significantly long time for the people voting, and would likely cause people not to vote at all. The reason I picked six Pokémon per vote was because voting for one Pokémon would likely be too difficult a choice for some people to make. I settled on six because I thought people may want to vote for the teams they used back when they played the games. No poll is going to be perfect, these were the choices I went with, i’m fine with them
I fail to see how it’s going to give imbalanced results though? You may need to clarify on that one.
I meant ranking the 6 you choose, and then weighting each vote accordingly, which also would probably be complicated to setup. I guess by the imbalance I meant that people who have fewer than 6 favorites would be de-incentivized to vote or might add misleading data to the poll. Also, a person’s #1 favorite mon would count the same in the poll as their #6 pick, even if they might feel a wider gap between the two in reality. I feel like people tend to have fewer than 6 favorites, but maybe that’s just me.
Definitely agree that no poll is perfect, I’m a bit of a stats nerd so I always enjoy talking abt polling methods.
Voted for all gens. Luckily I already did something like this once and still had screenshots saved for gens 1-8. Only gen 9 I had to do just yet.
Also, for gen 1 I nowadays like Moltres and Mew more than Aerodactyl, so that’s the only one different with the (old) pictures below. (PS: Seviper from gen 3 is my favorite Pokémon.)
You might like the poll we did last year where we weighted the options for starter Pokémon. It did give a nice result, but there were also fewer Pokémon to choose from so it made it easier to complete. People were asked to vote between 1 and 5 for each. But that was also on Google
Here’s an update on how many people have voted in each region, and the total votes as of May 25th:
Just a quick update to let everyone know that our poll has now reached 150,000 votes! A huge thank you to everyone who has voted so far. Here’s some information on the number of people who have participated in each poll by region, and the total number of votes cast, as of June 9th, 2025:
Years back I did a poll on Reddit via Google form that I think asked people to rank each Gen 8 design from 1-10. I only posted it once but I think it still got nearly 1000 respondents IIRC.
It was like maybe the week of SWSH though so perhaps that’s why.
I do wonder what would be a good way of doing such a poll every generation/game release that would have a good participation rate. Though having 2444 as the lowest number seems good to me already.
It’s great that you did the poll! I have seen quite a few of them and they seem to pop up every few weeks. This one getting 150,000 across all the different regions is pretty significant I feel!
Hopefully it gives some good information once the results are revealed. Then its on with the grand final!
