Let’s start the new year with the continuation of E4’s favorite polls! While @inertgeometry takes a well deserved break from a year-worth of polls, I’ll gladly highlight pokemon that are rarely in the spotlight. Why not start off with the first pokemon programmed into the games:
Rhydon
RESULTS
Design
Rhydon achieved an 8.33 out of 10 for design (85 voters)
The “Design” poll is just to get a rough count of participants,
Cards are listed in chronological order based on first release,
Each card will have a picture followed by the option to vote for it,
Vote for any card that you like.
Next Sunday, the polls will automatically close. I will edit this post and title to count down from least to most voted, and we will see which cards are E4’s Favorite.
I used to like Rhyhorn more as a kid but I’ve taken a stronger liking to Rhydon for a number reasons:
Awesome attack + large pool of type coverage moves
The first design created, it’s what Sugimori first envisioned for a capsule monster. Its final design changed very little compared to concept sketches.
huh, surprisingly fewer cards than I would have expected. Rock Rino is a cool concept. He just…wasn’t ever great in the videogames afaik. Maybe gen 1 actually. I’m not the most clued in. But if it learns body slam its automatically decent, and I believe it does. I want an art where he is using horn drill on something.
Wow, no cards in all of BW, and with its Gen 4 evolution it never got a rule box card. Not even an ex in Gen 3 and no holo in 21 years! I feel like 151 would have been a great opportunity for TPC give it some more love
we finally got budew, mantyke and bonsley in scarlet violet era. Perhaps they are attempting to right some injustices. I believe there is hope for anything else that has not seen the limelight for a while.
Giovanni’s rhydon!!! Look, if we don’t get art of Giovanni in swim trunks and sun glasses holding a cup with a little parasol toothpick thing, riding on a rhydon using surf, I WILL be talking with pokemon’s manager.
Agreed! Not only because it’s obviously OG, but I think I like the darker complexion of Rhydon in this card compared to the others. It seems like every other card Rhydon is either some shade of blue or gray, but I prefer the darker gray/black along with the card composition.
Thank you for starting this thread! I now recall the many Rhydons in Cerulean Cave in R/B. Many cool cards of Rhydon. I am also a big fan of the Personality Test card, which shows a different side of the tough guy:
