Was on YAJ today and noticed an incredible price on a ongoing auction of the card in question - I went ahead to search for the closed listings and found out that the price of this card almost doubled since February. (was around 12000yen before that, past 3 auctions are around 20000yen) You can click the link below to see the closed listing prices.
I understand that it is very playable and important in decks and this could be because of people wanting to bling their decks out etc but still it is pretty crazy. This is almost the case with the price of Acerola SR as well. Is this a trend? or just card-specific? (non-playable/popular cards are usually very cheap awhile after release)
This also leads to another (not very) relevant question - has the community in Japan/ Japanese collectors overwhelmed the Japanese card market for modern higher end, set release cards? I literally pay less than half the price if I am getting the English counterpart of the same card. There are many more questions about the Japanese card market that I have but for now I just like to hear more from experienced Japanese card collectors
The Japanese card market is a bit different like you mentioned, they are dominated by players more so than collectors, so for a highly playable card like DCE or Acerola, the price is going to be high. Also the pull ratios in Japanese booster boxes are less than in English ones so it can be more difficult to pull a particularly rare card. Even with that said though, those prices on a DCE are really high, usually Japanese ultra rares hang around 80ish dollars, Iām not sure why the spike in price is that high?
Really not sure what is going on with the prices of some of these chase cards from SM sets, would love to hear if anyone has an opinion why this is happening!
Curious as well. I need Zoroark gx full art plus the hyper rare version to complete my japanese shining legends set, but listings are generally 2-3 times the other secret rares from this particular set. I realize that zoroark gx is a highly playable card currently and that this probably is the reason.
