Is this card NM?

I bought this from Cardmarket and the seller listed it as NM, the pictures looked good so I went for it. Today I received it and noticed a small crease in the top corner. I know these cards are known for corner chipping (which it also has), but this to me is different. It’s hard to capture on photo but it looks bent ever so slightly. I still want to keep the card but I’m thinking of asking the seller for a discount. Am I being pedantic or does it lean more towards EX?

Yeah, I tend to agree. The card in my opinion is EX

Based on my experience with these cards, it might not be a crease but the beginning of chipping/flaking on the corner. Do you feel a crease when you run your finger over it? If it’s a clear crease I would agree that it’s not NM, but if it’s just the beginning of eventual flaking then I’d say NM is accurate.

Sellers on CM typically list as NM when cards are not. the definition of NM is stated very clearly on CM, and the defects that prevents a card from being NM are explicit. the most common cause of a card not being NM is surface scratches and these are not detected by sellers because of incorrect lighting source (so most of the time it’s not malevolent behaviour)

My experience is 90% of what is listed as NM is not NM, and if you find a seller that is accurate in his grading you should keep contact with him because that’s an uncommon breed.

I always leave a bad review in these cases because I think this culture on CM needs to change. We all need to elevate our standards regarding condition assessment. Buy a light source !

Would need to see the back of the card. The back of the card completes the story of giving a condition.

It’s good to keep in mind anything from a PSA 7 to a PSA 10 is considered “NM or better” with raw cards in the hands of amateurs (including myself). The front of the card closer to a 7 than 10. You can add “-” or “+” in some instances (NM- or NM+) but, again, this is closer to - than a +.

Some people grade harder with raw, but most people are pretty crappy about it online. In my opinion, it’s better to be a tad harsher on condition with raw cards until you’ve cracked enough slabs and examined to get a better feel.

what’s your username on cardmarket?
