Is this box from 2009 factory sealed

Hi folks, new here but longtime collector. Just picked this box up and somebody in a local Facebook (it’s a cesspool) group started getting snarky and claimed it was resealed. When asked to substantiate his claim, he got more snarky and just said “looks resealed”. I’m almost 100% certain he’s a troll, but what do you all think? Looks beat up, but a clean seal to me. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum! Most people on Facebook don’t know what they’re talking about. It looks fine to me, collection boxes are much harder to convincingly reseal because you often have the outer plastic layer (on older boxes) combined with a glued cardboard seal. Not to say it can’t be done, but why do it when a booster box would be easier?

Seal looks correctly worn in correspondence with the wear of the box. Nothing you need to worry about in my opinion.

Thank you, appreciate that! I come from the old days where chatting on the forums was much more common as opposed to social media and wow, the contrast so so stark. Every opinionated person on fb (and there are a lot of them) seems like they want a microphone no matter how uneducated they are on a topic

Likely real. The big areas you want to look at since the plastic does seem sealed strangely is the cardboard tabs holding the top and bottom closed on the back. Worst case scenario is the packs are light if you are not seeing them looking open.

Can i ask what your plans are for it? That trainer kit style doesnt come with an extra pack like the other style but can you tell if it is individually wrapped in it own plastic inside of the box?

I’m looking to sell this at a show this weekend, but will not be doing so if it is actually resealed, The cardboard tabs show wear around them like the rest of the box, but not on the tabs themselves. The trainer kit decks look to individually sealed as well. Here’s more pics:

They’ll probably rip it and you’ll find out real quick lol

Well that’s the issue, I would rather chargeback this myself than have somebody else get involved in that headache.

Edit: found some tiny ventilation holes in the plastic (outer edge, back of box). Good sign? I imagine this is tough to replicate and seem to be in a uniform pattern.

Not possible to know whether it’s resealed or not without opening it. That said, anything with EX era packs is immediately suspect unless you have strong provenance.
