Is Suicune getting a special treatment by Pokémon?

I was checking out the upcoming classic collection on Bulbapedia and noticed that Suicune is the only cat-dog featured in this set. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen this (Shining Fates, Breakpoint, Pokémon Crystal GameBoy art…).

Even though Raikou was in Vivid Voltage as an Amazing Rare and Entei got its own movie, it seems that Suicune is usually the one highlighted (played a big role in the fourth movie and was also together with Entei on Aquapolis boxtoppers and in the original Black Star promo set).

I’m curious, is there something special about Suicune in the lore, TCG, or video games that keeps putting it in the spotlight? Or have all three cat-dogs been eventually featured equally on Pokémon products since Neo?

Pokémon Crystal was my favorite game out of the first 3 gen games I played. Suicune being the mascot still sticks with me.

Out of the 3 legendary dogs, it is my favorite by far

I think it’s the most pretty, marketable one of the trio. The fact it got it’s own version and it’s more highlighted in the anime and other places makes me lean that way too.

They sure do. But I also love when they pair up Pokemon in groups or duos. Truely the best collectors hobby

The dynamics of the Dogs have always been weirdly interesting.

Entei, who’s always struck me as the least popular one, got its own movie as a fake projection. Suicune, probably the most popular, had a brief supporting role in the 4th movie. Then years after Raikou gets a special that flies under the radar.

Competitively speaking, Entei have always been pretty useless. Raikou is the unquestionable number 3 in its debut generation but then spends the next decade as Dugtrio-bait. Suicune is the only defensive one and the only one to be consistently successful. Much more used than the other two for many years until recent generations where all three have become rather outdated.

They have to atone for never making a BW Suicune Full Art. How could they not give the best dog a full art to complete the trio?

i always liked Entei more because of the wotc reverse holo promo which the others didn’t get. Now i’d probably go Suicune though

Entei was my favorite too for a good while, mostly because it had the best sprite in G/S. Raikou’s original sprite looks like garbage and Suicune’s isn’t much better. They did them justice in Crystal though, complete overhaul.

From a TCG perspective, Suicune has 60 English cards versus Entei (34) and Raikou (25). It was the mascot of Pokemon Crystal and made many people fall in love with Gen 2.

Suicune was featured in several movies (alongside Entei and Raikou). But in the last few seasons of the SW/SH anime, Suicune was also CAUGHT by one of the main characters (Goh).

I think people tend to prefer the design of Suicune to Entei and Raikou and TPC acknowledges that with their strategic decisions.

To add to this, I saw that Suicune was a newly released figure in Target.
