The problem is there isn’t much of a use case for Tag.
I think submitting a high end card with TAG and getting a full detailed report etc is more appealing than the BGS 9.5/10 with subgrades
The market disagrees. It might make sense for the right person, but most people just don’t want that level of scrutiny.
We need more public sale data from tag at this point it’s too early to say. Unless Ive misses a lot of public sale prices
Its tough to find Tag sales, I just searched “pokemon Tag 10” on ebay and this was the highest sale. If that’s a legitimate sale its pretty brutal. It was even advertised as “Pop 1, only Tag 10 in the world” yet it earned a third of PSA 10:
Here is the most recent PSA 10 sale for reference: https://sales-history.fanaticscollect.com/items/WEEKLY4697949
That TAG 10 outperformed a CGC 10 (6k) and a BGS 9.5 (5.8K). Comparing to PSA 10 it would obviously be inferior.
I agree to your previous point, but the future outlook of TAG is more promising than BGS.
I’ll just leave this here…
(And note, every single subgrade suggests this card is better than NM)
As far as I’m concerned, this is Beckett’s problem in a nutshell (at least the visible symptom, the causes I think have already been laid out, namely grading scale issues). If it is a known thing that I can go buy PSA 9 equivalent condition cards at cheaper prices because they are in a BGS slab, why on earth would a potential seller submit cards to BGS? There is no value proposition there, and the submission data reflects that.
@wjames I know of less than 5 people actively buying tag slabs (it isnt a lot).
I like the company and the idea - competition is good - but ultimately as you say, most collectors just want “enough” detail on what their card is graded at.
10% do want the ultimate tippy top condition card, but it’s super small.
Also to have the full breakdown on tag you need to pay their premium level - which basically excludes 99% of cards from being “worth it”.
@camrok37 pretty much this. I feel changing their scale is a first step to this, alongside sorting out their pricing and turnaround structure.
There is a black sheep in every group of slabs bro. Old cert, old label. Not abnormal to see from time to time. Still not excusable of course.
Does tag release any grading figures at all? I know a bit ago they mentioned being a company for 10 years but having well under 100k graded.
I think the main problem with tag is you just never know when sales are legit, ever, or if it’s a hot potato from influencer to influencer trying to hype up the new brand. Also it seems pretty clear that vintage card tag 10s, similar to most cgc 10/bgs 9.5, wouldn’t cross to a PSA 10 either so it becomes a question of what’s the point of having one? Although I would say in my limited ownership of a couple slabs, it was night and day nicer than bgs ones
that actually seems pretty high lol for a card that cant even go thru auth.
pretty sure cgc “10” price is way lower, and i would much have a cgc “10” than that
That’s true. I guess I thought since they are so detailed with their condition report their 10 would be more strict.
I used TAG for personal collection due to its transparent case.
I use TAG as a cheap pre grade to crack and resub to get PSA 10’s ![]()
How does that work though? Most TAG cards (vintage) have been over graded, especially the big ones like 1st Edition Base Zards.
I like the idea of TAG and their slabs do look nice, but from what I can see, they are touting that their grading scale is more accurate and their 10s are higher quality than other companies. I have seen zero evidence of this being true.
Oh woops, all these AI/tech grading companies kind of merge together in my mind. I was thinking of AGS but non-the-less, the harder these companies are on their cards, the better the opportunity to crack and resubmit to PSA ![]()
If people want to value their gem mint cards less by putting them in lesser known grading company’s slabs, let them go for it. I’ll be here buying them up at a heavy discount to crack and resubmit to PSA and sell for a profit ![]()
Have done this with CGC for many years.

Chris is one of my favorite sports dealers (one of the friendliest too). He’s also graded A LOT of cards. Much more than most of us. Solid quick video.
I wonder if he read though this thread because some of the stuff sounds directly lifted from here haha
