Interesting thought for discussion...“What if”

Interesting topic for discussion I thought.

Here me out:
I’m mainly referring to older sealed vintage boxes, packs, etc…

With the amount of ever growing poketubers opening up vintage sealed product DAILY; not including the sealed product opened off camera, is it possible the supply will dry up? I mean it’s already hard to come by as it is and prices are astronomically high as well.

Poketubers are here to stay we know that and are growing by the numbers. Which means more vintage product being opened…and that’s just what we see on TV.

How long do you think this will withhold before it gets to a point where there isn’t anything left lol.

I just don’t see that much product being available to withstand the overwhelming amount of tubers and collectors opening this stuff on the daily. It’s gotta run out eventually right? I’m not taking into consideration the collectors that are holding either, but “What if”

Was just bored and thought this would make for a cool discussion .

Not too long ago I had mentioned in a thread how long 1st ed base boxes would last, how many people speculated were left. I was guessing as little as 50-100 that would ever be opened. Now I think it’s more, but I agree with one of the responses that it’s probably a good 1000 or so. In terms of unlimited, there’s still safely 10,000+ left in to-be-opened supply at the very least, if not 10s of thousands. When you think about it, this is still very little, so we are closing in on the year where we won’t see it happen anymore. Perhaps a few years? Depends on the rate they are opened. I imagine someone, multiple people, have a closet full of them and have a good % of the supply alone haha!

You think there are 10,000+ unlimited Base boxes left out there?! That seems insanely high, but I guess there’s no way to be sure.

I mean certainly the supply will slowly dwindle year after year. And itll get to the point where some products are very rare and only pop up rarely. We’re already at that point with things like ex series booster boxes.

I gotta be honest, I thought at the beginning of this year that there are only 1000s left. But now I feel there’s more. I tend to underestimate things, and seeing so many people with 10+ copies, and accounting for all the unknown closet boxes, as well as surplus in storage, etc., etc., I gave it a fair projection for around 10,000+. I do hope I’m wrong of course

Its interesting to think how many people have stored, It would be not in their interest at all to tell anyone if they had a closet full as it will effect the market price. But I wonder how often they wish to boast or flaunt their stash/collection.

I wonder how many say SMpratte or gary have, or if they said how could you trust it to be honest. Since pokemon became investemon the less people know the better.

Same with anything from vintage cars or other antiques, what is really hidden out there?

Is there a secret WOTC staff member or original part owner that kept a ton of everything to look back on, who knows

Vintage Magic had a more limited supply, so it happened somewhat quickly, but you never see breaks anymore. It just doesn’t happen. Even Openboosters on YouTube only opens a pack every so often and I think he’s working through his last couple boxes. Pokémon will get there eventually.

Not too far fetched. Base/jungle/fossil was massively printed. Sure they aren’t the same numbers as modern but even at that time Pokemon was trying to establish itself in tcg all over the world and for that product needs to be available everywhere! Considering the population of US alone and the peak popularity of Pokémon during that time 10,000 is a very, very small number. Now something like skyridge or some of ex series like deoxys I would say 4 figures remaining, if not 3.
