Hi all, hope you’re all well.
I’m new here, I’ve just been getting into Pokemon as my daughters have started to create their own collections. I love the artwork and joy of finding new cards with nice imagery and designs, it’s a truly unique world, I’m impressed. I come from 3 decades of comic collecting and the last 6 or 7 years I’ve been collecting vintage toys from my childhood. So in many ways I understand the quirks of condition and grading etc.
However, as I’m learning the hard way, finding cards on the shelves is a flipping nightmare. So to keep the fun and excitement alive, and not just go down the buying singles route, I have got some newer items ordered to fill the gaps when the Saturday morning walk around town comes up empty.
I’m already reading and seeing a lot of info on resealed items and fake cards etc, so I’m trying to do my due diligence and understand the risk. I’m pretty sensible in terms of where I buy from but in many cases the only feasible option is eBay.
I’m not really in this to buy and keep sealed, but who knows, a few boxes for the young ones may go away for them for the future.
Anyway, I just got this Surging Sparks booster and the film cover is pretty poor across the front, I’m not too concerned as it’ll likely get opened, but is this normal? The seals all look good and from what I can read the film is of the right type and the it doesn’t appear to be resealed to me. I’ve also read that the modern film and seals are know to be pretty varied in quality on the English packs. It’s a little loose but I certainly wouldn’t say it was excessive.
I guess my question is, if I’m buying sealed, is this normal? Or if not normal, is it within the bounds of what is to be expected from time to time.
thanks in advance, appreciate any replies ![]()
