in general what is the impact on price of a card that is "OC

hello everyone, first post on the forum so before i ask my question id like to just say hello and introduce myself. my name is paul and ive recently gotten back into the hobby. im sure like many, i grew up with pokemon, i recently bought my first home and in the process of moving i came across all of my old cards and the old trip down memory lane quickly took me to ebay and my local card store lol! ive gotten back into collecting so far ive gathered base, jungle and fossil almost all in 1st edition and some newer sets as well including phantom forces, fates collide and evolutions! on to my actual question, can any of you guys explain to me better in terms of value, what does a card being printed “OC” do to that card? obviously just because a card is OC doesnt automatically make it more valuable, but in the case it does what does make it valuable? is it rarity or how severely OC it is ?

Hi Paul welcome to E4

There are a few collectors out there that will pay a premium for OC or miscut cards but generally they have to be on the extreme side i.e. not slightly OC. Obviously the value will depend on the card itself → miscut Charizard vs miscut Pansear etc.

It’s only a few who will overpay, to some the OC grade actually subtracts value rather than adds to it, all comes down to personal preference.

Awesome thanks for the replies guys. The card that spurred the question was a reverse holo staryu that was oc top to bottom. It just got me to wondering lol but while on the centering subject what impact does centering have on a psa grade? For example I pulled a secret rare dialga ex full art and I’ve been really wanting to send it in to get graded but it’s slightly off center. The rest of the card is beautiful but I don’t want to waste my money if that centering is going to land me a median grade. I can post a picture a but later to show what I mean if anyone would like!

Realistically the centring of a truly mint card can of take it down a 9 a lot of the time and 8s occasionally if it is particularly bad.

Has there ever been a card given a 10 but was still an oc or is that just a hard and fast rule and part of the grading process? Off center is off center and doesn’t garner a top grade?

Ok that’s cool! Thanks for the link don’t know how I missed that I just submitted my first card for grading about a week ago and I read quite a bit in the site! That’s helpful thanks again!
