Could This Grade OC?

Can this grade OC? If it does, is there any extra value? Any help is appreciated

I have a fossil articuno about the same amount of oc as that that’s coming back this week from psa. I’ll let you know how mine did!

It’s close but I personally do not think it will get the qualifier and yes to some more valuable if it did.

Will it get a 9 and the qualifier is the real question. Would it otherwise grade a 10? I do not see a lot of 8 OC’s. I see a lot of off centered 8’s that didn’t get the qualifier though.

Depends on how the grader is feeling that minute with the way psa is going

Gonna be close, but only if it is a potential 10, other than the poor centering of course.

Cards only get OC qualifiers if they are worthy of a higher grade than their centering would justify. E.g. an otherwise MINT/GEM card that is way off centering for either of those will likely get PSA 9 (OC).

If your card is a PSA 7/8 or less quality and fits within the PSA 7/8 parameters for centering there is no reason to give it an OC, because it is just a run of the mill ugly PSA 7/8. This OC obsession is filled with submitter misunderstanding and grader incompetence and it is one of the most unfortunate things to see some collectors struggle with because its just all dumb as hell IMO. If you like the card because it isn’t centered then just enjoy it. It’s ridiculous how many people need some outside validation of things they enjoy (or don’t when it fails to be recognized).

Thanks for the info. The off centering is pretty cringe IMO, not a big fan. I’m not familiar with OC or miscut and this is simply a flip situation if it can get the OC grade. I can buy a separate NM copy for binder

Im not harping on what you’re saying but PSA is outside validation. That’s what it is. So I’d say it stands for OC collectors the same as it does for people who want cards at certain grades. I don’t see how it’s different or dumb. Now when people send in NM to beat up cards expecting 9 OC’s and complaining about it, that is dumb. But op’s card looks pretty good as far as the pictures tell.

@kaioken 65/35 centering is allowable on the front for a PSA 8. The card otherwise looks to be an 8 at best so it fits in with the overall condition of the card. If it was an otherwise GEM card then it could be worth of a PSA 9 (OC). People see an off center card and just automatically assume that it deserves an OC designation and just fail to realize the centering needs to be below the rest of the cards condition. On top of that you have grader incompetence as I said where a card may technically meet the requirements for designation but fail to be given it.

My same thoughts on the foolishness of chasing the OC designation and losing interest in a card when it fails to achieve it, also applies to people enjoying GEM/MINT raw cards that they acquire, only to cast aside the card as a reject when it is encased in a MINT 9 case because even though it looked nice raw, it didn’t get the required validation. It’s all just my opinion and I understand its relatively unpopular. An analog I see to everyday life is when someone is excited about something new to them say a pair of glasses, a shirt, a new hobby, something or other until they get teased about it and the no longer can enjoy it.

Can I sounds really stupid here and ask a noob question… But what does “OC” stand for? :slightly_frowning_face:

PSA will give it a 6 and forget about the OC qualifier.

It means Off-Center, which means the card borders are misaligned. You can check out all the other PSA qualifiers here.
