A few months ago, I completed Neo Discovery, a set I started collecting back in 2001. I couldn’t say for certain how much I paid to complete it, but on the whole it was far less than I expected, thanks to a generous friend from the US who sent over the remaining holo cards to me in the UK, and a few rares that I needed.
I knew that it wasn’t the most difficult set to complete, yet certain cards such as the holo Umbreon and Espeon were going to be difficult to find cheaply. I got very fortunate with the Espeon from an eBay seller for £22, and the Umbreon I managed to get for £23. Although the Umbreon has a crease in the card, it isn’t too noticeable when its in the folder, and its something I can live with if it means I didn’t need to pay out significantly more.
Overall I am very happy to have completed this set, and I think my next goal is to focus on individual WotC Black Star promo cards. I am doubtful i’ll ever own every single one, but I will do my best to get as close as I can.
I love mastersets!! I’m collecting right now first era of WOTC in japanese, no promos, in played-light played cards, so I can buy bulk and have a beautiful binder. Who cares about some scratch in the back of a card?
Huge congratulations! I agree that it is a bit underrated since the other neo sets seem to get all the attention and the lack of shining pokemon hurts it a bit, but its still one of my all time favourite sets.
