This is my take on it, I like the grading system at PSA best, but I think it would be great if the whole label was printed or engraved into the case similar to how BGS logo is on theirs. Maybe not as legible against some backgrounds but more focus on the cards is best in my opinion.
Different color lables would be sick. Also, what about the option to put high value cards in a case made of different material such as glass or something. Maybe even have a solid gold or diamond option for the cases!
I really like PSA’s label because it seems like the best label:card ratio, and the label doesn’t read a novel. It just identifies the card and tells you the grade as it should, in a neat manner. I do like my counterfeit looking PSA label though haha. Hope you guys like it. I know it looks a little Microsoft Wordy lol I tried my best
I tried to keep it pretty minimal. The QR code would reveal the certificate number which itself could be printed on the back along with any sub grades or extra detail. I like @fourthstartcg’s idea of having extra info, but I think that’d also want to go on the back to keep the front as clean as possible.
I would prefer that the label contain minimal relevant information and the cert number is actually accompanied by a certified document that describes the issues on why the card was knocked down.
Not to take away from any of the labels currently made, since they’re all pretty awesome, but none of them mention the language on the label…
And rofl at those LEDs, @qwachansey . I can imagine people sending in cards for re-casing because their LEDs ran out after a few years, haha. The humidity and Instagram posts are also pretty funny in your second design.
Mine had a PSA label, so I followed PSA standards: English cards have no language and other languages are noted like “Japanese” or “Japan” or “JPN” or “JP”. My slab design offered PSA that same flexibility they’re already used to.
Ah, forgot PSA didn’t mention English either… My bad. When I saw all the labels without language mentioned (or in some cases without room for the language) I thought people forgot about them (which most probably did tbh, haha).
I personally would prefer it if language is always mentioned, but maybe that’s just me.
PSA being too lazy to grade foreign cards is something I dislike about them anyway (although I can understand why, since they are already too ignorant/lazy to include No Rarity Raichu/Venusaur or all those misprints with a lot better documentation than certain foreign set releases).
Honestly, I did forget about language on mine haha. I don’t think it is worth including English on it because we (Americans) don’t go into Wal-Mart and point out that they have “English” cards. They’re just cards. I don’t mean to discredit other languages though, I feel a Japanese grading company may feel equal and opposite about English/Japanese cards… maybe?
I’m a bit late, but here’s my redesign of the PSA slab
Welcome to the 21st century. This slab has no paper-based label. Instead, everything is laser-engraved on the inside of the slab. The lower part of the slab is dark-bluish and transparent, except for the engraved letters and the square containing the grade. On the backside, you would find the QR Code and the serial number at the same place where the grading square is. The lack of a paper-based label also makes fugitive ink obsolete.
The slab retains the trademark PSA lighthouse logo and the red PSA border (this time around the grading square, not the entire label). The blue background on the lower part references the backside of the classic PSA label, which is also blue.
I have also reversed the position of the “label” from top to bottom. Not sure if this comes with a drawback I didn’t think of, but this way, the slab has more resemblance to a trophy. By being on top, the card becomes the center of attention. And when holding the slab in the most common position, the thumb rests on the lower part of the slab, so now the thumb covers more of the label part and less of the card.
Lastly, I removed much of the excess space of the traditional slab, making the new slab considerably smaller while keeping the size of the label/description the same
I’ve been saying this for a while, labels should go on the bottom!!!
I’d pay psa extra to get my psa label on the bottom as an option for sure and recase every single one of my existing cards.
Awesome design, I prefer label on top but the design is awesome and reasoning is solid. Only thing I could think of as a drawback is when you’re sorting/cataloging your collection? If the label is on the bottom, you’d have to pull the slabs out completely to see which one it is and if you kept them label up everything would be upside down. Might be some work arounds for that problem but just a potential issue with label on bottom I think. I really like the label design though, doesn’t take up too much space, has all the info you want and doesn’t pull attention away from the card.
@arkhive,good point, I didn’t think about the sorting problem with labels on the bottom. I still like the label on the bottom more from a visual standpoint so I’m a bit undecided about what’s more important in the end.
