How do you know what print run pokemon red/crystal is with only the cartridge? I am aware there’s 3 print runs of Pokemon red, and 2 of Crystal. Pokemon reds first two prints are identical on the outside but what about the inside? Is this a first print run pokemon red/crystal?
That ahould help with Red. Not sure if anyone has made a guide for Crystal.
I looked at this guide but even the author says the exterior it’s identical. So I’m trying to figure out what the difference could be.
First post lists that your Red is likely a first run with white esrb and correct cartridge code.
Edit: Nevermind, I see that their table is incorrect while their post details are correct with photos.
Paging @pokerd
I misread the post. The number imprint on the middle right should also help find what print run it is if you know that info of which version had the imprint. Although, Im pretty sure all the gen 1 - 3 gameboy cartridges have a number imprint on them. Someone correct me if im wrong but thats how I always determined if a cartridge was authentic at least.
The imprint is shown on the crystal version
You’re right. Gen 1-3 all had imprints, which is usually the easy way to spot a fake.
I can’t help much with the insides, I’m more dedicated to the sealed / brand new side.
From a CIB grading standpoint, it shouldn’t matter about the imprint codes, the grading companies will just check if it’s a white esrb or black for gen 1, and crystal, I’m not aware of any different carts, they should all be black esrb.
