Hi everyone, I’m currently collecting Tomokazu Komiya cards. I have about 219 so far, but I’m missing the Touch Generation Change cards. Why are they so expensive on eBay, and what’s the current market price, especially for the old back version? I can’t find it on Collectr, TCGplayer, or anywhere else except eBay, where the prices are ridiculous!
I recently saw a YouTube video stream from Japan where one was listed for around 2,000 yen (about a year ago). Now I’ve found one for $130, is that a good deal? Should I snag it if possible before it’s gone?
Thanks so much for the thorough analysis and guidance, I really appreciate it. This is the listing on Mercari Japan: https://jp.mercari.com/item/m99830055413. Sadly, it’s sold . The seller seemed legit and had an authentication option available. was it fake or it was a good deal that I missed
It’s awesome you’re collecting Komiya cards. We’re lucky he’s both the greatest ever and simultaneously insanely cheap to collect. These few cards are some of his only ones I had to spend more than a few bucks in my time.
To be fair, I believe I had to spend about $75-100 for this card even in 2020. So if you found one for around $200 these days that would be completely acceptable by today’s insane standards of value. So many cards I waited and waited or took breaks from buying only to return to see them 3-5x. $50 cards becoming $200-300 and sometimes even more crazy disparities.
Consider yourself lucky that komiya is overall very very cheap and this few hitters have only 2x’d in 5 years since initial insanity of pokemon.
Would be cool to see how you sorted the collection once you complete!
I always found these to be super interesting and unique cards with an amazing backstory, so they’re definitely worthy of their price compared to some random super modern chase cards that are a few hundred bucks right after release - in my humble opinion. What I’m trying to say is, if you are willing to spend a couple hundred dollars on Pokemon cards in the first place, you could spend them on much dumber cards.
Unfortunately, I can’t afford the two Psyducks by him right now (Screaming Psyduck and the PokeKyun promo), both of them combined cost like $1,400 (this is > year salary where I live ), hopefully one day I can get them
I actually have it on my watch list, but not to advertise but Scott (smpratte) has one on his ebay PSA 10 for $499, think its a great deal, sorry I removed the link.
I bet you can message him directly, ive done it before to save him fees too.
