Kinda a QotD but I wanted to see your thoughts. Be creative! You can state their collection, how they talk about pokemon cards, or other things!
Enjoy!

I only speak to grandiose volcano badges or higher.
Well the difference between the two options is that there’s generally more irrational decisions, high-pitched shrieking, references to esoteric figures from an internalised lore, hand-signals and darting for cover.
I will not specify which.
They can talk about cards beyond prices.
A good way to know right from the start is they’re a legal adult. Im sure there are other ways to narrow it down but you always need a step 1.
E4 collectors will go crazy over the card(s) as long there is good lore surrounding the card(s) regardless of price or scarcity. Or if there are swirls placed in the funniest locations
Our sacred history. Kebabs, hoes and rogue gameboy meowths.
have you been on e4 lately? lol
They are the same thing, E4=regular collectors. I don’t consider someone a collector if they talk about the prices of their collection instead of the specific cards. What they see is money what collectors see is shiny cardboard with history
I would probably just ask them lol. When Im having a genuine conversation about pokemon with people in a public space about cards I always ask if theyve heard if E4, and get them to check it out if they want.
There are actually plenty of people who have amazing collections that have never heard of E4. They probably have niche knowledge too, or so Id hope.
i am a true collector
If I am talking to them on E4, then they are an E4 member.
I feel like people on here care a lot more about things like the artwork, artist and specific details around a particular card or release and they don’t just focus on how rare something is or could be, or how expensive it may potentially become. Instead it seems most on E4 sort of accept the odds and collect more for enjoyment and less for just potential financial gains.
If I go to other spaces, it seems like people focus a lot more on future value or other prospects within a set or card. A lot of financial talk or speculation basically. Instead of just appreciating the card(s), it’s more like “this set has a Charizard and Pikachu.. to the moon?”, etc.
Of course we have a lot financial/market discussion on here as well at times, but overall I find E4 members look at the hobby more vertically & horizontally. In other words, I almost always learn new things on here, where everywhere else I go sort of feels like the same conversations on repeat and it sort of just gets boring quick. I think you can get way more out of this hobby in the long term by learning and appreciating the cards more. If I only focused on the money I’d never last in it for long, but I guess every collector is different too.
If they have a favorite Pokemon illustrator, they’re probably an e4 member.
Basically if they know who I am they are probably on E4 lol
pfm existing
They know things… things an ordinary collector does not.
Difference is very simple …
E4 collectors appreciate all languages the cardboard has been released by searching actively for specific variants in a language that is not English or Japanese. Also they have knowledge of which variants are unusual to find for sale and they know niche information about cardboard …
Regular collector focuses mostly on market prices and is easily carried away by sensationalism.
If a collector has developed a massive spreadsheet … it’s most likely that they’re from E4
e4 members are regular collectors. That’s how you spot them in the tall grass.
