How do you catalog your collection?

I agree, doing it from scratch and 100% manually sounds like a pain! Seems like there’s a hole here for a service to step in and make an easy cataloging app that simplifies things and does as much as possible automatically. I’d even pay a small subscription fee for it. For now I’ll keep building my excel sheet

I use a word document oddly enough.

Very helpful to read other’s thoughts as I’m just starting myself. I have chosen an Excel doc as that’s what I started documenting values in before buying my first items.

I use Google Sheets which is very similar to excel and free!

For Pokemon finances, I use excel. You can google search for a simple business expense/ income/ profit template like this www.smartsheet.com/free-expense-report-templates

For keeping track of cards, I use the old paper and pen method. I print out set checklists every time there is a new release and then I update it by using bulbapedia

Didn’t think my first post on E4 would be about this… but airtable.com is the type of software you just can’t help but tell people about it’s so nice. I’m a software developer and we use it for work. I’ve always been an anti-spreadsheet guy, but it was so delightful I started using it for personal stuff, including collection tracking. Think excel / google sheets but prettier, better UX, and the ability to arrange and visualize your data in increasingly more ways. And if you program… it has an API. It’s a freemium model so doesn’t cost anything unless you want premo features. Anyways, hope someone finds this recommendation helpful:

It’s a hell to setup a good spreadsheet, but when the initial setup is out of the way it’s so damn easy to expand on it. Keeping track of what is in the binder and what is not became way easier since I started one.

That said… my spreadsheet is going for a 4th overhaul this year. This because I have not bought a single card for my collection in months now. I lost my original spreadsheet, only have a 3 year old backup on Google Docs. So doing a complete new spreadsheet based on how I want to display it in the binder.
