This is unfortunate but not the fault of the seller. I also missed the scratch when I first looked at the picture, but it is a PSA 8 and the damage should be disputed with PSA directly.
Don’t let @stagecoach get you down.
He has very high expectations for condition. Most collectors (yourself?) may not be as condition-sensitive as him.
Also, this is not a dig at @stagecoach. He is awesome and I appreciate his exceptional eye for condition, centering, etc.
This went through eBay authenticity guarantee so unless there is a way around that I am unaware of it is impossible to return the item anyway.
Yeah this would have to be submitted to PSA directly for review if the buyer felt it was a mis-grade.
The disagreement seems to be whether the card deserves an 8, not whether it is being sold as an authentic item
Truthfully it was not sensitive for me to make such a remark, and while it was aimed at PSA I regret being snooty. I’m sorry for the bad energy, @Charizard1020.
You’re right. I won’t do that
You’re right an 8 is an 8
You’re good. I do think the card is flawless besides the scratch. I was just confused why it didn’t get a grade lower than an 8 considering the scratch
If it had worse centering or any type of whitening, I think it would have been a 7 or less for sure. The back of the card and good centering make up for the surface flaw, IMO.
It also depends on the card & set. If you look at most PSA 8 Neo era holos, they’ll usually have no whitening, but potentially multiple factory lines/scratches as well, which occurs straight out of the pack. Base Set Charizards from what I’ve seen can be a tough grader, some have horrendous centering as well.
So I really think the PSA 8 here is fair, but just my opinion on it.
I mean I wanted a PSA and as long as it’s that I’m happy
Oh, it’s definitely the right grade according to PSA. Of course people will always have an opinion for or against PSA at times. I’ll share another example on a Base Set 2 Charizard. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these without scratches or print lines on the holo. They are some of the worst graders in the hobby. Here’s a PSA 10 (which is like 1% of all graded copies), and you can clearly see some light scratches on it. However, it still got a 10 because I don’t think this card can even come out of the pack without holo issues, so PSA will say that it’s “virtually perfect” as described on the website:
So rest assured that your Shadowless PSA 8 is a very fair copy for the era of when it was manufactured and given how old it is ![]()
Sort of gutted when I got this card back from grading because I was pretty sure it was flawless on submission. I opened the card out of a cellophane pack
At an angle under lighting, you can see a long scratch on the back top-left of the card. I didn’t see anything else wrong with the card and so I’m sure the scratch was a big factor in knocking it down to a 7.
In comparison to your scratch, mine is much longer. Maybe that’s a factor for determining a 7 or an 8 between our cards?
You locked in a PSA 8 shadowless Charizard at a price you are good with. It’s a pain but you could always sell that copy and buy another
That’s true. As long as it’s an 8 that’s I’ll I’m happy with. I was just concerned it was Mia graded and it should’ve gotten a lower grade.
Yeah that’s tough
Thank you I needed to hear that
This was a very interesting topic. For someone who does not grade and is not after graded stuff, this was some good points for and against the said card. As a newbie on this subject, I would for sure take the grade that PSA assigned to the card as the true value. Probably the grader also missed the scratch and gave it a grade it deserved. I hope this does not detract @Charizard1020 from the fact that this is a lovely card.
Thanks for the discussions.
Cheers!
Typically I would agree, but it’s a Shadowless Charizard.
@everyone Thank you everyone for your help and insight on this. When I bought this card I wanted an 8. Then when I saw the scratch I got worried and wondered if it was mis graded. You guys helped me see that it truly is an 8 which is all I wanted. Sorry if I caused any trouble for anyone. I love this community and I appreciate everyone’s help.
No need to apologize for everything and I’m glad you have some peace of mind now. Any PSA 8 shadowless Charizard is a wonderful card!!
