Ok so recently I was going through some of my favorite Dragonite cards that I plan to display and upon further inspection found a few flaws that gave rise to concern.
This card is one that was graded a long time ago with an early cert# and the old PSA label that doesn’t have either the silver PSA stamp at the bottom or the fancy new label they use now. I have watched a few videos on the subject and recall some people mentioning a change in strictness of PSA grading standards, and was also mentioned in a previous post of mine.
When I first got this card many years ago, I did not notice anything wrong with the card as it was “flawless” in my eyes. However, upon further inspection I noted a few flaws that I could see on front and back…so my question is would these flaws still constitute a PSA 10?
Would I still be able to sell this PSA 10 Fossil Dragonite at the current going rate? (around $1,500 on ebay listings currently) I also know of the collecting stigma/conspiracy where “newer 10s are true 10s and thus worth more” so I was a bit worried about the legitimacy of my oldest card’s PSA 10 grade.
Please let me know what you think, as I have included pics of the 2 errors I could find on the card front/back.
MARK ON FRONT - IS ONLY VISIBLE IF TURNED A CERTAIN WAY IN LIGHT
If it is a 10 list it as a 10. People can look at the pictures and decide for themselves. Allow offers but don’t let anybody try to tell you it isnt a 10, and keep it around the 10 price
When you get the timmys whining about the price (they are coming) simply and kindly point them to the 10 in the label. If that doesn’t work suggest the thousands of cheaper listings of psa 10 1st ed wotc fossil dragonites
Ok so despite the flaws the card has which would most likely make it a 9 if graded more harshly, since it was originally graded a 10 that is its actual grade. However, if I decided to get the card’s case upgraded to the newer one as discussed in a previous topic, would PSA look at the card and potentially re-grade it to a 9?
My objective with this card is to keep it as a part of my personal collection since I’ve had it for so long. I mainly just wanted to check if it is or isn’t essentially the same value as a currently graded PSA 10 flawless card? (just PSA grading conspiracy or actually true in this case)
A ton of people collect just for the label(not a majority, but there are a decent amount of people who couldn’t care less about the actual card, just the grade itself)
You will be able to sell this for the market price, no worries
The only way you’re gonna know the true value of your particular card is if you decide to sell it. Some people might compare your card to other 10’s. Some people won’t care to compare and might just look at the fact that it’s a 10.
@miguelito, If you sent this card in for a case reholder, PSA will not reduce the grade. Nothing to worry about, PSA graded it a 10 so yes it is a PSA 10.
You can ask them to re-examine it if you want, they may reduce the grade to and 9.
Up to you if you feel like wasting money one day lol
I’ve never done this but here is the re-holder policy. They only regrade if case is damaged to ensure cards itself has not been damaged.
If you are planning on keeping it in your collection than it doesn’t really matter unless you just want a new case and we’re worried about the grade dropping- which wont happen.
Thanks for the responses guys! That set me at ease about the card’s value and I believe I will hold off on getting the card reholdered until I know for sure how I am gonna display this card with the others for the time being.
