I can tell you that the eBay Bucks program is a hollow shell of it’s former self. It used to be 1% on everything and then then the occasional boosted percent. Now I don’t even get the promotions anymore
I am actually in the hole on eBay bucks. Bought a lot of stuff with the 8% bonus last Christmas. Was issued my eBay bucks, spent it, then had to return one of the cards that came in later from the 8% bonus period due to damage. So I have been in the hole $3.56 all year, and haven’t gotten a single eBay bucks to offset it. Oddly enough eBay doesn’t care that I overspent my eBay bucks.
That’s interesting and definitely a nice benefit card!
I wouldn’t call the ebay card total crap though. It’s still unlimited 3.3% after first $1000 to be used on ebay. I completely agree the 5% marketing is fully misleading and they should change that lol It has its niche.
The real hack was using BofA Cash Rewards card with Slide app.
You set your Cash Rewards category of choice to “online shopping” and then you use that credit card to buy stuff with Slide app. Slide app used to give you 4% back on all ebay purchases and the cash rewards gives you 3% back so you would get 7% back overall. And you could also proactively add funds for an extra 1% to get to 8% back.
However, now Slide only gives you 1% back now. And only works in the US.
the cards are getting more stingy… Now that rates in increasing…? Or because young people have shown that they tend to carry lower balances…? Not sure. BofA is one of the stingiest.
I also just noticed that Rakuten (eBates) is giving points for collectibles purchases on eBay again. Worth taking advantage of, even though it’s just 1%.
Yeah I maybe wouldn’t open a BofA account just for the cash rewards card but if you already have an account then Cash Rewards is one of their best cards. No annual fee and 3% back in your category of choice. You can carry a low balance with BofA if you get direct deposits of $1000+ or more or something like that. I get my work paycheck sent to BofA checking so its not a problem.
