Sports has parallels of different colors for the same athlete, same photo.
Pokémon is now consistently doing regular holo, reverse holo, poke ball reverse, master ball reverse, etc.
It is looking more and more like sports these days

I can actually see this, the popular saying is after all history repeats itself, I assume they have been looking at sports card history and other tcgs to figure out what is effective and what isn’t, compared to sports cards Pokemon is still young so I assume it would be beneficial to them to look into other history
Maybe this is the maybe this is another thing you can do with a history degree than teach history

Pokémon already tried to do that with recolouring full arts in Hidden Fates / Shining Fates / Paldean Fates; and rainbow rare / gold cards since their inception. At the very least, what they’re attempting now is on bulk cards with unique and often decent artwork

I agree, but I am excited to collect every BW Pokemon in IR/SIR. Black White is my 2nd favorite era behind Sinnoh. I would go crazy if they do this for Sinnoh later on

Pokemon addressed wanting each pack to feel like a hit for kids a few years back. That led to every pack containing a regular holo (though holos are worthless these days) and a reverse holo.
I wouldn’t say that they are taking the sports card approach, but offering more of an experience for their young audience. Now if they begin serializing cards or adding 1/4,096 shiny variants in boxes, I think that would be a major indicator.
