I feel like I’m going to have a controversial answer here. Yes I have. On the game itself, estimate maybe $10,000, although probably more. Expenses because of the game, couldn’t even calculate it.
Pokemon Go has changed my life. It came out the year I graduated high school and I have played it daily since. I’ve been to 6 of the official in person events, and countless other community events and trips inside and out of the country playing. Everyone in my life, I know through PoGo, or because of the dominoes PoGo knocked over.
I could ramble and ramble forever. The people, places, experiences… I honestly owe so much to PoGo and how it has changed my life. So yeah, I’ve spent a lot on and because of the game. And while I know I’ll get judged for that, every penny is worth it to me because of what it has done for me.
In case anyone is curious, here are my stats, as well as flexing my Shiny Living Dex and Shundo Collection
I kind of want to go and total up how much I’ve spent over the years. Definitely the most was during 2020 with the remote raids cause it was actually fun getting raids from different countries and making some friends from it. I don’t really spend anymore the past year or two, maybe the $20 coin bundle just to have raid passes if there is a cool legendary. Pretty much just f2p now and catching Pokemon instead of raids. I would say that spending money on this game doesn’t feel as bad as other games since you’re actually going places in real life but that’s probably coping with it lol.
Doing raid trains in town with like 20-30 people driving around to raids was a lot of fun. Went to a lot of places I wouldn’t have normally had a reason to go to or met nice people that I wouldn’t have otherwise. Counter Strike is by far my most spent game but I can get that money back and some from selling the skins so I don’t really count it. Once they click the off button on PokemonGO it’s all gone. Like that Harry Potter game.
I have spent more money since they introduced stickers than ever before lol
I am probably close to 200$ in. 100 was likely stickers and the rest would be egg incubators and pokemon storage (although I only have 850 pkmn space rn)
This is such a fun experience. I remember doing the original Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres raid days back in 2018 or 2019 and it was incredibly fun. Meeting local players and routing a path together was just… yeah so much fun.
I have spent my fair share of money in POGO, Over the past year I started playing it again after a multiple year break. I will spend a couple bucks here and there but not nearly as much as what I spent pre 2020.
I did spend a reasonable amount during the first years, at some point basically the 100$ coin bundle monthly so the total being somewhere in low four figures. I had a lot of friends playing the game and i still have (i did also get together with my wife through the game) so i definitely wanted to get the most of it, i still miss the days when we raided all day with friends or the days when i biked dozens of kilometres beating gyms. I do have over 300 gold gyms purely grinded by bike or by foot and the best month i recorded i walked over 450km in addition to work and school so i did get my exercises done with the game. I did stop spending money on 2020 after niantic’s decissions started being dumber but i still play or at least open the game daily, never have had my daily catch pokemon streak broken
Yea that was a lot of fun. In my city it isn’t the same with PoGo after 2020 but some people will still meet up. Funny just seeing people randomly around town catching Pokemon The legendary birds are always fun. I drove about a half hour to the bigger city a few times for Mewtwo and Rayquaza raids in 2019 to be with the bigger groups. Would meet at the City Hall and the Police officers would just look at us like what the heck are you nerds doing hahahah
I never spent money in the app itself however I did purchase a new phone specifically for playing Pokemon Go when it released. I don’t play anymore but it was a lot of fun when all of my friends were playing with me.
Yeah probably a few hundred USD plus over time if im being honest but its been a really long time since ive played. Hit it really hard in the beginning. Lived in a small town with almost no pokestops for a while so id buy pokeballs and random stuff. Was fun, no regrets just wish i stuck with it.
Lol yeah I am for sure over 50, but I havent spent too too much. Way back in the day I used to throw 20 bucks at it every community day just to stockpile items, then I quit when covid hit and in recent days I havent spent anything.
Pokemon sleep though i remain ftp since to me its kinda a filler game to go
Honestly if you’re active in the game, you should buy those type of Shiny Mythical missions. IDK if they’re gonna return someday … I had to wait like 3 years for Shiny Mew mission (before that it was an exclusive from a PoGo Fest)
Shiny Celebi one was a free limited mission, so no money spent there …
I’ve been playing since day 2. Between sporadic coin, event pass, and remote raid pass purchases I am probably between $20-50 per year. Well worth it.
@c011ect0r if you’ve got the money it’s all good. That’s great that it has changed your life in that way and certainly there are worse ways to spend $10k over a period of 8 years.
