I’m one of those “this is in my collection and this is mine forever now” people. I rarely sell my stuff unless I come across duplicates/ want to sell stuff for condition reasons. I have a trade binder for the extras, but since I rarely open packs it’s very sparse. Not one of those people who bring 100s of URs to events. My 100s of URs stay at home where they’re safe and sound.
I did, and now want them back. Sold 2 English Wailord EX (2003?) and traded 1 shiny * Mew. I still have 1st edition Japanese versions, but now really want the English back for my collection. The shiny Mew was traded for an English Charizard EX (Fire red Leaf green). Yeah…I kick myself, but at the time they were both worth about $50.
These days I keep 1 of each language card I get, and important variations.
Never as a set… I am thankful I haven’t been in a situation where I needed to sell one. However… As a kid, I traded one Charizard for a Chansey…All my friends freaked out at the time. Looking back I guess it was when I first realized I was gay… jk jk. But I did trade it
I rarely sell out of my collection but it’s hard sometimes. Today I was offered by a member here a PSA 10 1st Base Charizard for my Unl Korean base set. I just might have to do it though normally I never would.
I guess "never say never’ lol.
I gave away my entire collection as a kid, over 200 base set through Legendary collection holos.
25 of them being 1st edition, that were kept in a toploader since day one.
Gave them to my cousin, who then gave them to his cousin and after that they were probably thrashed.
To be honest I never thought I would get back into collecting, then mid last year I got hit by the bug again.
I also gave away my football card collection and that was probably worth more, I inherited it from my uncle when he passed, but had zero interest in football back then.
I sold My PSA 10 Rayquaza Gold Star, the one I graded myself. Sadly I needed the money. Its a pretty special card to me because it was my first victory in collecting.
It was a week after that I shipped it that I felt bad and regretful. However the person I sold it too didn’t buy it for himself. He was extremely grateful when it arrived safe and sound. It was in that moment that he revealed who it was for. He sent me a picture of his son holding the card. The young kid had the biggest, brightest smile. It was an almost too perfect ending to my ownership of the card.
Not gonna lie that brought a little tear to my eye. It was a beautiful moment knowing that what was once my best card now serves another purposes in another person’s life.
Even if I ever get the money again I am happy for it to stay where it is now!
I still regret selling my English Charizard Gold Star (and other Charizards like the ex from Fire Rerd & Leaf Green) for rather cheap price years ago just because I was in need of money. I didn’t regret it back then, but lately as I’ve realized how awesome card that is and what it is worth today at the time I had no job and I was a student so I needed the money. I was a Charizard collector and I was like “I need to stop this collection because Charizard is too expensive Pokemon for me.”
And now I’m laughing at myself because I could buy any Charizard today if they were at the prices they used to be around that time when I sold them. Damn it
