Fortunately, I wouldn’t say that’s completely true. A lot of artists seem willing to come, and even Harada did a show last weekend in LA where she offered an autograph with a purchase. With that said, my impression is that most are aware that the autograph market is strong here and don’t want to be used as pieces in the machines of other business people, but definitely want to see fans.
I read somewhere on this board I think years ago someone saying that if it was a good deal on a hard to find card that they’d buy the last card they needed for their collection from the devil. I searched for it but couldn’t find it. Think it was in regards to a banned member selling something good but may have been edited or deleted away. I could even be remembering something further back from a coin collecting forum.
A bit of hyperbole sure, but if Satan came to me with a legit base 1st booster box for 1999 MSRP I’d not be able to turn him down either. We all have to draw our own lines.
I understand what you mean, but I tend to separate the art from the artist, unless it’s really egregious. Unless this guy shows a pattern of being a shit bag, I’m not going to hold it against him. His conversation was a bit slanderous and the gay comment was uncalled for, but it’s not a fatal flaw to me.
Man just reading the things I have in the last 10 min further confirms I’m better off not sharing my collecting experiences and personal journey back into the hobby with other people.Everyone should be hoping the best for whatever guy lost his card. Hope he gets his card back!
@alecpokemon, That is good to hear! However I frequently talk to a few japanese people who are close with the artists. Ultimately their experience is a net negative. Primarily because of the flippers bringing in boxes to sign. Although The people here structuring the events in the US are a god send (ahem talking about you Alec).
In japan signatures are mostly all personal. Where here too many people see quick money and have no chill. The culture shock is often times more than the artist can handle. I just hope they become more structured moving forward.
I understand exactly where you’re coming from and that’s why I tried to make sure my comment wasn’t attacking in any way, just a difference in opinion. Like @gottaketchumall said, we all have to draw the line somewhere and for each person that line will be in a different place. I’m a firm believer in that your response to your negative actions is far more important than the negative action itself. We all make mistakes and those mistakes don’t inherently make us bad people, but how we handle those mistakes is crucial. If he addresses that comment in a correct and professional manner I can respect that and I think that says much more than the comment itself.
I also more refer to things like animal products being related to horribly abusive farms or sweat shops in other countries producing clothing. Things that are more severe than this but the same principle.
have the audacity to bring up entire boxes of cards to sign, that’s just rude and disrespectful to the other people that want stuff signed by holding up the line like that.
and 2. that the artist or event staff don’t prevent this from happening. There should be a limit set on the number of cards you can get signed, MTG depending on the artist have limits of 10-50 cards and after that you go to the back of the line if you want more done.
Aritas website says that all signed Pokemon cards “strongly require” personalisation, is that just a phrase that’s been there and was never actually enforced? I wonder if Charizards reading “To Flipperthedolphin69, much love, Arita” would be as flippable.
@djgigabyte, @fourthstartcg, Didn’t you all hang out together in Hartford for like… 3 days? I thought he was one of the vendors for Charlie’s collectors event. Could have sworn I saw him in GemMintPokemon’s walkthrough video.
I am totally appalled by the homophobic comment. I’m not gay, though I wish I was (woulda been better than all my marriages lol), but verbally denigrating people in an already trying situation is flat out wrong. How is it that some have progressed so slowly? Shame on Chris and the like😡
If he doesn’t come on here and apologize for that I will personally see that this affects him.
Somebody get this thread to him…
Thank you I’m probably talking to different people in Japan doing the same things! My goal for the signing events is to structure them with the artists in mind. They set all the rules, prices, etc. and I give them as big of a heads up about what to expect as possible. If they have a good event, most everyone else does. So far, both that I’ve had have said they’d love to come back!
I’ve noticed on Twitter a lot of the cards signed in Japan are commons and just personal cards! It’s refreshing.
TBH even though I don’t condone or like what he said (kinda childish also) i’m kinda relieved that was all he did. When I saw the thread was bumped I thought the worst which is him stealing the cards people sent him (doubt this would ever happen though). Since the Arita event was to full to have him sign all the cards, he sent the cards people still wanted to get signed to London for his next event on July 12th. I’m just kinda on edge since I sent him around $6500 dollars worth of cards. Hopefully all goes well.
We “hung out” in that we were in the same building at the same time, but by that standard I’ve also hung out with Barack Our honorable president, Justin Trudeau, Kendrick Lamar, and Chris Evans.
I’m here, and I’m caught up on all your writtings.
First I’d like to start by saying that the group those images were pulled from is a Secret group in the pokemon community where it is absolutley not frowned upon to mess with eachother and there is massive amounts of this going on every day. That being said; calling someone gay is completely out of fashion and shouldn’t be used anymore - I also didn’t mean it in a derogatory way - I only said it so he would see that his comment meant nothing to me and was rude in my eyes.
Theres not much else to say on the topic except for that I’m not always an asshole but we all make mistakes from time to time. We all can be douches in our personal and outterpersonal world - would be nice if we were all able to love eachother 100% of the time but that’s not going to happen in our lifetimes. Sooooo I’m taking it as a personal growth experience and you won’t see it happen again.
Update on items with me for signing:
Anyone who has cards with me and who has asked for a refund was completely taken care of and everyone elses cards are currently in London.
I’m not gonna say sorry for something I’m not sorry for - I’m also don’t know who bought or sold the item in question so therefore I’m not defaming or slandering anyone. If you want to make a big deal of it, have them message me and I’ll say sorry to them myself but not to someone whose only point on the thread is to try to slander me. How about that @anon83099482 ?
Lastly - If you have any other issues, come chat with me in private as I’m sure we can work something out where we aren’t bashing each other endlessly.
