Curious if we have Gundam fans here or not.
Objective here is just general impressions, let me know your thoughts!

I mean it looks cool. Iāve always loved the fundamentals looks. But it just seems like the typical modern tcg where every card is basically a full art with some text. In which case I prefer the FF tcg, because Iāve always loved the FF artwork.
Going to use this as my reminder to finally watch all the gundams though. I only watched whatever they aired on toonami back in the day.
Some of the card art looks awesome. Gundam has a huge world to pull from so you can probably get some cool variations in ways to implement cards. I agree with @ragingkraken that it does seem pretty standard for a card game although a 4 person battle royale will be interesting. I hope it does well and can find its place, I probably wont play or collect but would love for the card art to turn me around on that.
Hell yeah we do!
Gundamu!
My FIRST thought is, with the popularity of gundam, how available will it be? I think Gundam is more popular than it probly is. haha, but IDK.
I do like the apparent quality of the card, looking more like those Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy cards. The design, if true to the final product is also in a similar style, so I hope it does focus more on art in that regard.
Also, nice to see a mix of eras. I saw Amuro and Char of course, Strike, Heero, WoMercury, ā¦hopefully they have additional eras too. I also really like the clean card backs. Minor, yeah, but itās nice, and fits the aesthetic well.
Would I collect? Probly not. Might get a few faves, but then I have gunplas of my faves⦠Play? I will watch some lets plays and see⦠or hit up my LGS if they have a session.
Dang Iām a huge gundam nerd my wallet hurts. Might not join on this but look forward to cool card art
I wonder if Ariga will ever illustrate any Gundam cards in the future. I remeber him being a huge fan.
As a gundam fan, I am excited but I am very skeptical of its success. They covered it in the video but the franchise has attempted this numerous times; here are the past/current TCGs that I knew of:
Gundam War Collectible Card Game (Bandai) 1999 - 2018
This is the only TCG Iāve actually opened up (couple booster boxes) in the past.
Collaboration with Battle Spirits (Bandai, Sunrise, and Carddass) 2020 - 2024
Mobile Suit Gundam Arsenal Base (Bandai) 2022 - present
My thoughts:
Iāve seen all of UC timeline and a few of the alternate timelines. These Gundam timelines, especially UC, can be hard to follow and understand because of the many series, films, and OVAs that have been released out of order since the 80s (feel free to reach out if youāre interested in watching). And because of this, there are a lot of mobile suits and characters (with funny names).
Despite this, the franchise is not as diverse as pokemon- many of the characters have similar personalities and the mobile suit designs all look the same to the average person. On top of that, the previous TCGās also look similar to each other, the characters usually look like screenshots from the anime and the suits are always shown in fighting poses. In other words, you wonāt see an alt art of Nu Gundam looking up at the moon on top of a tower, starry night style. It seems like Bandai is trying, you can tell they want a share of the TCG market.
Either way fingers cross this brings in more fans as the franchise is quite fascinating once you devote some time to it, I highly recommend it!
So, I have NO idea what previous Gundam TCG played like. I wanted to save my initial reaction to the gameplay after seeing more, but Iāll just say this for now.
The gameplay seems a little shallow. There doesnāt seem to be as much potential for unexpected interaction as in other games that make them highly dynamic and engaging, and because they are dealing with characters that have a very committed fanbase (cue Char fangirls and boys) it may make it hard to resist catering to those trends. Not to mention the franchise is based around competition of strength, and not encouraging players to train or create strategy with creatures OTHER than their favorites. I feel PkMn, MtG and YuGiOh do that well. Lorcana and Flesh and Blood seem to well, as well.
Iām worried that the meta will boil down to fairly predictable combos and threats. BUT it will really depend on the game design team. And I have High hopes. Iād love to get Norris (08th MS) in a Gundam, or to have a Shiro Amada card with some āSuper Luckā ability, that randomly grants plot super armor. For now, we can only dreamā¦
Another thought, but random. Iād love a gundam MtG crossover. They did Godzilla, Dr Who, Tranformers⦠Canāt believe Transformers is more popular than Gundam⦠but itās true
It does seem like youāre able to combine any pilot with any MS except that youāre penalized if theyāre not ālinkedā (i.e. not using norris in his gouf). As you mentioned, itās likely going to focus on the usual characters from the og series and most current series. I wonder who between Amuro and Char is the equivalent of charizord
However, it did peak my interest that you can battle between 3 or 4 players. What would also be cool, is if they implement textures on their cards. Weāll see⦠I think I will buy a box when it releases next year.
Oh, itās Char. No question!
Those Char waifu cards are gonna be $$$!
Hope the art will be good
Itās Char, the gundam subreddit is already raving about it
Gundam is cool as hell, but my wallet is being good cop right now. Ill admire it from afar
T.T
I love Gundam. I will certainly give this a chance.
lol. Too good.
Well itās true, and besides Char is the Charizard/pikachu combo. Charizard mass appeal, plus thereās a char clone in most of the gundam media just like we get a new electric rat each game
Lol, well I canāt blame Sunriseā¦
But letās be real, no pokemon can ever be as cool as the red comet:
ZZ waifu cards are about to explode. Not but seriously I will take my Sayla and Fa cards please!
