Goosebumps Collection

What a throwback thread, this is so cool. I sucked at reading (and still basically do) but I always wanted to read these as a kid. Such a great collection!

Well this was fun. So many covers that I instantly remembered. Monster Blood IV, Egg Monsters from Mars, and Say Cheese and Die might be my favorites. Have y’all tried reading them again? If so, how’s that experience hold up?

So I wanted to re-read them as well. I’m starting from the 1st book and working my way to the end. I have read the 1st book so far and they only take like an hour with such big font. The book was just as I remembered them and I feel like they age well but that could just be nostalgia kicking in. I look forward to re-reading them all and reliving those glory days.

Thanks for sharing! Massive nostalgia for me, I was shocked how many of the covers I instantly recognised/remembered, even though I havent thought about these for maybe two decades!

I didn’t recognise the last few, makes sense these would be after the main popularity so more expensive.

Might have to see if my parents have any of my childhood ones stored away so I can re-start a collection…

See, I love the American cover art (think it was drawn by Tim Jacobs though I could be mis-remembering completely) so it was weird when I first realised that ours were cropped. But they did at least keep the same coloured slime/goop design and the artwork is just like a big bubble in the centre.

But we also obviously completely missed the original art for the first 30 so it’s always cool seeing any of it.

At the same time, I still really enjoy our cover art for the first 30. Whoever drew it was really good at drawing people and the art in general is just good quality. Love that skull on the cover of Dead House and the traumatised girl on the front of Girl Who Cried Monster.

I think there was one that I remember. It Came From Beneath the Sink has a special edition logo on the front and one of those door handle hangers inside I think. The only other card inserts were to join the Goosebumps club.

I started a couple of years ago. Read up to Go Eat Worms if I remember rightly. Very easy reading with some bizarre endings and explanations. Enjoyable in a nostalgic way though and a real snapshot to the past. I’ve been reading all my life though so it’s a bit of an adjustment after reading so much adult fiction for so long.

I also have a collection of Christopher Pike Young Adult horror fiction, UK versions again which I’ve almost got a complete set. Also Pike’s Spooksville series which is about the same reading age as Goosebumps. I could share those in a separate thread of there’s enough interest. The covers are completely different to the American originals.

Have you seen the Goosebumps stapler? My friend recently got back into collecting Goosebumps after buying a few from a flea market and probably having a midlife crisis and showed me this. It appears to be the gator from Escape from the Carnival of Horrors

The artist Tim Jacobs actually sells signed goosebump cover prints for super cheap! I think I may have to snag some of them for the display that I still need to cook up once I complete the set!

I have no horse in this race but just saying that’s dirt cheap, especially for considering a big chunk of that is going to charity and at least based on this thread the theme is relatively popular and healthy

That IS a major nostalgia trip. Thanks for sharing… Now I wonder where my old ones went. Wonder if my parents still have 'em. We all bought 'em for the covers, right? But let’s be honest, some of those titles bring entire passages and stories to mind. Thanks for sharing, @emseasqrd !

These books just make me so happy man. They are among the first pieces of literature I ever read, and they really got me excited about reading. This is age 5, 6. It would make me excited beyond words at the scholastic fairs that would come visit grade schools, and you would beg your parents to pick up a few goosebumps books, Harry Potter, Hatchet, the Giver, etc.

I have the whole collection myself but I haven’t seen it in years since it’s buried in a closet in a cramped apartment lifestyle where you don’t even get to enjoy half your possessions because space is impossible :face_with_spiral_eyes:

But one thing I don’t have are those awesome jackets and a good display like you have so seeing this thread is super satisfying.

Like my childhood Pokemon binder, I remember my parents having a garage sale and letting the Goosebumps books go for like 10 bucks for the lot of them. Funny how Goosebumps is embedded into everyone’s childhood like Pokemon!

Scholastic book fairs was where it was at!

The display shown above was what spurred me into starting my collection. I wish I could claim it but it was from a redditor who had collected the set and made that sweet display. I’m still trying to sort just how I want to display the books.

Man this is so cool! Goosebumps were made for collectors! I bought them and animorphs just to collect the covers! I had to dig up my books from childhood!

Btw is that bookcase an official product or custom? Either way it’s awesome!

Yea both Goosebump’s and Animorph’s art trigger alot of core memories from the 90’s. I believe that dude with the bookcase 3D printed those ooze shelf covers.
