Nice collection and welcome to E4! Did you store them in top-loaders from back then or just put them in after you rediscovered them?

Wow, that sure blows my childhood collection out of the water haha. Very nice!

holy damn. Fantastic first post!

Those are some nice first edition holo cards, they were just a myth to many kids back then. Congrats!

Got into the TCG when they first came out, having played the games. Our small town had no access to cards/shops, so we had to drive ~45min. There was rather nice shop in a mall there that kicked everything off. Buying/Selling/Trading, and best of all - tournaments. Packs or store credit were generally on the line, but the bigger ones brought out the boxes. A monthly tournament’s grand prize was a first edition jungle box when they were they were released (where most of these came from).
My dad saw the potential value in these. He made a big impression to take care of them: sleeves, top-loaders, binders, etc. I didn’t vary much in the decks I was playing, so anything that didn’t fit went into a sleeve then top-loader or press case. As I’ve found them again, I’ve since been taking the time to get newer protection, and take the time to check condition. I’m happy to say most are still pack fresh (even if this means the condition isn’t pristine as that’s just how they were pulled).
I hope to organize the pictures a bit more, and add to them as I’ve found a few more binders that I need to pull from. These notably have:Japanese, Promo, 1st edition base, shadowless base, 1st edition rares from later sets.

Oh wow, replies already!

The ones I thought were ‘cool’ went into the press cases. Most others went sleeve into top-loaders. Those were all old, so I’ve since been upgrading them. Bought the local stores out, and apparently these are now in rather short supply (the protection).

Thanks all! I didn’t know the meaning of 1st edition then, I just liked that they weren’t like the others. Sadly I’ve probably traded many more away for ones that were seemingly cooler or used in a deck at the time.

Dude.

Also, is your dad’s name Gary?

Updated the album. Next step is to separate them into more organization.

Added:
Japanese rares (notably: Base Charizard, non-rarity Sabrina’s Alakhazam)
1st Edition Holo Rares
1st Edition Non-Holo Rares

Working on a better/more static camera set up to makes the picture more uniform.

@tsquared
I’m digging all the Neo Genesis cards for some odd reason, welcome to forum as well!
Btw. I’ll share you top tip for using Imgur, if you add ?grid at the end of picture folder link the overview changes quite a lot. Looking through many pictures becomes much smoother experience.

Thanks for the tip and the welcome! It’s interesting to go back and look at release dates for set, then think about how I came across them. Neo Genesis was 2000 apparently *memories*.

Nice childhood collection! Many of us were silly and sold them off. I sold mine mostly off around 2007 when I thought Pokemon had no chance of growth and I was trying to make a living selling cards. I did keep some and I know I have a stash of Expedition holos in my parents basement including Charizard, but haven’t been able to find them or seen them in 5+ years of casually looking. There are a lot of boxes!

Looking forward to seeing what else you dig out.

Awesome brother !

My wife has joined in the fun after I gave her some idea of why I was going through all these. We joked about it like treasure hunter. She sent me this while I was running errands:

Boney feet is just another set.

Well you got the best collection I have ever een for a kid

I remember when I was a kid I took a sharpie and wrote my name on the top of my cards in a tin, so I knew they were mine… terrible mistake lol

Holy heck! This is definitely the best preserved childhood collection I’ve seen.

Thanks! This is all thanks to my father with making sure they were stored properly. However he didn’t prevent me from playing with them, which is why some have lasted in far better shape than others.

Rough pictures coming soon… the binder that holds the remainder of the 1st edition Jungle box has been found. No less than 5 of each card numbering 33 through 64.
