think people are confusing experience with anger. I’m happy if you think that the sky is the limit forever, but a lot of people here have been around for a very long time and seen how organic and inorganic growth plays out in the hobby. I benefit if these cards are very expensive, I have many of them. I just think it’s ridiculous and disingenuous to revel over the price “going up” week to week. If you haven’t sold, you haven’t made any money. Pick your time

I learned gold stars were a big deal when I sold mew and vaporeon on ebay when no one gave a flippity fuck about pokemon in 2016.
For all the readers who are new and don’t know what the deal is, these prices were impressive in these days, especially the mew. That’s a lot of money for a card back then.
(Yes this hurts but this was 10 years ago, it was great selling these at the time, it bought me a lot)

What is a very long time? 5 years 30 years? I would say neither, 30 years is nothing. Watching cycles you can count on your one hand and thinking history will always repeat itself is the same as assuming prices only go up, no? You would have to be equally naive. I agree, nothing is made until sold and for everyone that time is different based on circumstances such as age, stomach for risk and so on. While I also agree nothing goes up forever that is not the point. Many markets see peaks, valleys and eventually higher than last peaks and so on. It is healthy to see them and any retrace is no evidence what so ever of anyone being right or wrong. Inflation is real, collectible or desired things get more expensive as long as demand remains. Will it, no idea lol Enjoy the ride, take profit if you must or just want to and keep on keeping on.

Amazing when someone has no way or desire (unsure which) to intellectually debate or rebut they call names or joke about the others understanding instead. Rather than call me a joker why not discuss why you believe I am wrong. I can respect we do not all agree but to just go right to calling someone a joke. Oh well … this thread isnt about the shining and GS market anymore, just people hating.

It is some what difficult to predict anything in this hobby ( I still call it that even if people do not view it as much these days lol ) I did not think Gold Stars , Shinings and heck even Crystals would go up so high as what we have seen. I do believe they will all calm down in the foreseeable future 100%. When exactly no idea. How low, pssssh your guess is as best as mine I would assume. Yet there is something about the top 10 most popular gold stars that may not retrace as much in price from past solds we are seeing now as much as the others like less popluar Gold Stars, all the Shinings and, I ll mention them again as I think they fit the grouping of GS’s and Shinings…Crystals. If anything, those will be higher in price as time goes on then what we see now possibly for the 9’s and 10’s especially for the 3 gold stars from EX Deoxys since booster packs and boxes are very rare if not more so than the other ex sets from what I have been seeing in research, and of coarse Charizard because.. Pokemon tcg will not let us forget Charizard and how popular it stills remains and most likely will remain.

Let’s see if this copy sells for more than 24.5k usd last sold Z&G auction since that one was viewed as a weak 9. This one looks much better in my opinion as I am hoping the white marks on the back of the card is just the psa plastic slab / lighting.

I don’t doubt you, but just curious: have you seen raw stashes of these in PSA 9 quality? Or are you referring primarily to lower grades than that? I’ve seen a few pretty insane stashes, but not of mint copies. I can’t recall having seen a stash of mint raw gold stars (outside of the Unseen Forces ones, obviously), but I also haven’t been around nearly as long as some here.

psa 7 is literally a binder copy they can be found in binders and ppl paying 13k for them
yeah psa 9 would be hard to find raw but it was available for 6-8k for a few years and i still dont think its rare at all since ive bought and sold them without too much effort
talking about gs rayray btw if it wasnt clear the others r even more common

Oh, PSA 7s for sure. I agree that $13k is absolutely insane for a PSA 7 Ray. Even pretty recently, raw PSA 7 quality gold stars weren’t particularly difficult to find, and often for pretty reasonable prices. Like:
That’s from December 2020 and it was ~PSA 7 quality.
But I’ve only very rarely seen mint raw copies of GS Ray, tbh. Was curious if you had seen some supply that I hadn’t lol.
It’s an English set card. There were tens of thousands of copies printed. It’s rare for a set card (especially in mint condition), but it’s not rare in any absolute sense, at all.
