Hello and welcome to e4!
Swirls usually don’t impact the value of a card at all. They’d have to be reaaally significant to make a difference of maybe 1-10% max. This is not one of those significant ones, no offense
For value of your card, you’ll get a good idea by searching for ebay sold listings and checking pokemonprice.com.
@jam1992 , Welcome to the forum! I have to agree with @muk on this one. Swirls are kinda neat and fun, but they don’t add a huge amount to a card’s value. Most collectors don’t pay a premium for them, but you sometimes you’ll see an additional 5-10% if you can find the right buyer. According to eBay sold listings, it looks like PSA 9 Team Rocket 1st Ed Blastoise’s have been selling in the 400 range of late. Wishing you good luck if you do try to grade yours!
These might not be ‘God-Tier’ placement, but I do like the whole concept of the thread! I know the swirl meme has been pretty ridiculous as of 2020, but I do appreciate the additional aesthetic or story it gives the card, whether it is in line with being ‘artistically competent’ or not. Please excuse the god awful quality from an Android.
After seeing this thread a bit ago, I decided to check through my binders to find any swirls that stuck out. I thought the Pikachu was interesting because, not only is it very special to me in particular because of the unique Fukuda signing and sketches, I thought the swirl placement complimented the card really well! The sparkle right on the Pichu’s nose. Swirl coming right off the red cheeks and looks like hes staring right at it. Kind of like a magnifying glass? Perfect for a Detective if you ask me haha.
The Torchic also stuck out because the sparkle dot and swirl is right by his winking eye, so I thought that was interesting enough. It also being special to me with it being the ink misprint version, as well.
The Treecko was just hilarious and mildly inappropriate. Poor guy was a little gassy. With all them being Gold Stars, I thought they all really complimented each other to boot. Thought yall would appreciate it!
@muk Have you posted this before? I almost put in my post that I thought I’d seen one like this posted here but I couldn’t find it quickly looking through. Maybe I just skipped it. But that’s awesome anyway
I posted it a few months ago in this thread. Like I said there, this was my only swirl-based purchase ever. It seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity I couldn’t pass on, but now you have me questioning that
Well, at least it is still the only Japanese Skyridge Raikou with a lightning swirl I know of haha
