Gastly, Haunter & Gengar Checklist Project | Help Needed

Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a collection project focused on japanese Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar, and my goal is to catalog every card featuring them (across as many sets / variants as possible).

To stay organized, I already created printable black-and-white proxy sheets in adobe InDesign for my binder.
The idea is to have a clean layout to track what I already have and what I’m still missing.

So far, I’ve mainly used:

  • Bulbapedia

  • Pokécardex

However, I would really appreciate some help from people who know the topic well, to check whether my list is complete and make sure I’m not missing:

  • variants

  • promos

  • reprints

  • specific versions (languages / editions / special releases)

If anyone here has experience with this kind of project, I’d be very grateful for some help :folded_hands:
I can also share my list / proxy sheets if needed so you can review them.

Thanks in advance for your help !

One thing you’re missing for Gastly and Haunter are code variants for some of the Japanese equivalents of the EX era sets. See here. You end up with quite a number of the same arts with the code variants! (e.g. Gastly might have three code variants that exist in both 1st edition and unlimited—so six total cards).

Thank you very much! I’ll add to that!

Edit : So this adds a total of 9 new cards and two updates:

  • 4 Gastly and 1 Haunter in Mirage Forest
  • 4 Gastly in Flight of Legends

I’ll check if each of its variants exists in a first edition and unlimited before adding them.

Each of the missing code variants should exist in 1st edition and unlimited (and I think neither version should be too difficult to find), so there should be a second code variant for the Mirage Forest Haunter and three more code variants for the Gastlys in Mirage Forest and Flight of Legends. Then x2 since each should have their own 1st edition and unlimited version, for a total of 14 new cards to add?

I made a Species Collector Index that you can reference. There are several folks on there collecting Gastly, Haunter, and Gengar who could probably lend a hand/have experience with these g-g-g-ghosts.

@bub102x and @circlehunter come to mind.

Pokécardex has been very helpful for me, I use that to track my cards in general as well as a 2nd account to track my dex binder cards.

@circlehunter has a great topic with his haunter list google doc for both English and Japanese. CircleHunter's Haunter Collection

I only collect English as a master set and my list was basically the same as his.

Only thing I can add is for cameo’s (if you are interested in that) I have used this reddit post https://www.reddit.com/r/PokemonTCG/comments/11tak3z/my_cameo_artwork_database_has_been_updated_for/ which is a list of cameo’s for all pokemon.

Thanks for the ping! As far as I’m aware, my Haunter spreadsheet linked above is comprehensive up to the current set. That’ll get you far outside of any Gastly or Gengar promos, I’m unsure about those.

I’ve made some changes to make it simpler by adding the 8 Gastly cards in 1st edition, and 8 in unlimited, then 2 Haunters in 1st edition, and two Haunters in unlimited, which changes from 6 cards to 20!

Thank you so much! After carefully reviewing @circlehunter’s sheet, I’m thrilled to have completed Haunter’s collection by one! (However, if I understand correctly, his list doesn’t include the two code versions for Haunter from Mirage Forest (CQV-8W1-SH1 / CQV-8W1-0AM).)

And thank you very much for the cameos; I’ll definitely create a separate document for them. I’ll also include the non-TCG cards, most likely Carddass.

This is my Gengar spreadsheet. I need to make some updates to the recent releases, but it should be good for most of them. If anyone has any additions please let me know

Mirage Forest has code variants??

RED ALERT TBH

A species collector’s favorite activity: shifting all the cards in the binder to make way for new variants!

Thanks for your list, I looked at it carefully and I think I have all the versions that are present in my document.

Update :

I also modified the Gastly and Haunter files to make them more consistent and display all the previously seen versions (I also added “First ed” and “unlimited” instead of “Not first ed” - there’s a small error in the Gastly file, but I’m waiting for input from other users in case I need to add more, etc.).

I also got to see @palmen’s collection, and they had a really cool idea for integrating illustrations in that mind. I’m also going to try upscaling (in Photoshop) some illustrations to fill the gaps in the binder, for example the manga page for Black Fog (Black Fog - Bulbapedia, the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia). I’ll also do the cameos later.

If you have any official artwork in mind (Ken Sugimori, for example), or memorable moments from the manga, anime, etc., feel free to share them with me!

Hey! Happy to have inspired you!

About upscaling and modifying images and artworks: I used photoshop to clear any extra layout elements and used some AI to upscale the images. I don’t usually like or use AI, but I think upgrading the quality of an existing image is a good use for it.

I found a guy on reddit who created a free website for upscaling images and you got some different option depending what your purpose is, I think is a good alternative to free websites which may store your files and feed the AI

I’ll leave here the link for anyone who might need it!

Edit: Also, if you need the size or other information about printing and getting images into the binder I suggest you to watch peeplop content on instagram!
