Fossil Moltres Black Dot Error

Last year I came across a fossil moltres with a black ink dot above the 80 damage text. I thought it may have been a one off misprint so sent it to CGC (where it frustratingly still is due to delays).

Yesterday I bought another moltres and it has the exact same ink dot. I believe this a new repeating error. I have searched online and cannot find any more information on this so wanted to share.

I can now confirm with certainty this is a repeating error. Just found and purchased a 3rd one on ebay.

I have now got 5 of these. One at CGC another on route to me.

Does anyone have a contact or advice on how I can get PSA to recognise this error?

Neat find and good you were able to find a few more copies. Considering how many repeating errors there are though, I highly doubt PSA will recognise something as trivial as a black dot.

Very cool find! I’m a bit jealous but I’m still working my way through base set! As for PSA… you can try to get it recognized; there’s no harm in trying. From personal experience though, they are not very receptive of new errors. Either their “research” team doesn’t actually do any research (even though they have unparalleled access to a trove of millions of perfectly scanned cards that don’t require them to be listed for visibility) or TPC made them sign an NDA for a contract that only allows them to certify errors that TPC agrees to. My hunch is on the latter but the point is: it’s nearly impossible to get your error cards recognized by PSA even if it’s in-your-face massive and they won’t give you a reason; which is probably the most frustrating part. “We can’t recognize you error.” Me: “Why? I clearly have multiple examples.” “We can’t tell you.” - have at it but just be prepared for disappointment.

You heard that right. TPC very likely dictates what errors PSA can acknowledge via some kind of agreement. They kinda let the cat slip out of the bag in my conversations with them. They said they need to send the error request over to “their guy” at TPC. Later when I pressed them for a reason why they told me they couldn’t give one I asked about “their guy” and they said they backtracked and said TPC has nothing to do with the decision. I’ve dealt with NDA’s before. This is how they work; exactly like that. Some less experienced person usually spills the beans before they get corrected and then it’s a stone wall.

I think they will.

That’s hilarious! :joy:

You’d think that but there’s no formula to getting PSA to acknowledge en error and if there is they won’t tell you. This card is what I tried to get acknowleged: “White Smoke Durant” from surging sparks. The white doodle to the right of the ex is larger than the black dot on that charmander. They still said no.

Well I stand corrected. The amount of labels a card can have is too damn high.
