It seems like only yesterday… I still remember the news videos.

The thing I remember most about this event was the articles showing the Twitter posts from Americans saying ‘they deserve it for Pearl Harbour’ and I just remember being so infuriated at their lack of education and downright stupidity.

There are fantastic stories in the aftermath as well. Like the man who has stayed behind to feed all the farm and domestic animals that got left behind.

I remember being at Worlds that summer. The Japanese players had to qualify through grinders due to the earthquake cancelling preliminary tournaments. Grinders meant anyone who registered in time could battle.

10 hours later (sponge bob voice) I believe between 64-32 competitors remained. They were ready to start the next round, sitting across from their new opponent. Right as they were about to begin, an announcement was made over the intercom, “all remaining contestants have qualified”. I remember seeing Yamato’s reaction; the relief was palpable. I couldn’t believe they flew here with no guarantee, and made it all the way through grinders.
