[Final Update: Not an Error] Charizard Base Set Unlimited - Printing Error?

Hmmm deciding vote which way will I go.

Here are the results!

Summary

CGC has determined that it is a printing error! It falls under their definition of an “obstruction error,” which can be read about here.

Occasionally, when the ink is transferred from the printing plate to the blanket, a piece of debris can get stuck to either the blanket or the sheet of cards being printed, and block ink from reaching the surface of the card.

Here it is on the certification lookup.

Congrats! Looking at it again, it looks like Charizard has tiger stripes or something like the Charizard clone from the first movie!

Congrats! I was definitely wrong about this. Glad you trusted your gut and got it verified!

My addendum to this is that even though the card isn’t the most beautiful thing ever I’m now very intrigued by how this happened  Since CGC confirmed that the card wasn’t a victim of cement the turns have tabled and I admit I spoke too soon.

Someone on Instagram is claiming that they owned this card and it was originally laminated and the card was damaged by removing the lamination. He still hasn’t posted any pics of it being laminated, but it definitely makes the origin of this card questionable

@Dyl you really posted this on PWCC for 100,000k? Like I know you mostly listed it to show it off but I still think this isn’t kosher, especially now that we know this “error” is indeed replicable.

edit: no hate, just flabbergasted by this whole situation mostly

Don’t hate on Dyl for this, if this is indeed true then it’s CGC’s fault for authenticating it. Dyl wouldn’t have any way of knowing if it was real or not if someone else altered the card.

My main concern throughout the whole thread had to do with attributing some ridiculous value to it.

It’s just a flex meme, a lot of people do it. I don’t think he actually thinks it’s worth $100k

Error collectors dont have 100k anyway

Yeah I understand. I just think there’s a difference between sharing the card without a price tag on social media vs sharing it on a public auction house with a ridiculous price, regardless of whether CGC verified it or not (and I’ve shared my opinion on why I don’t think CGC should even verify crimped cards).

Anyone want to donate a charizard? I have a laminator :joy:.
But removing lamination isnt really something that people easily come across so while I hope it is something that can be tested and verified now on how it effects cards.

Seller going straight to cgc and rattle instead of @Dyl is plain wrong imo. They sold it to them so it’s very easy to solve.

Yeah I found this to be a bit odd too, especially since no proof was posted up front (still waiting on proof)

Yeah I’ve seen your posts. It feels like a jealous rage has erupted. If it isn’t real then chill. It’s not how I’d handle it at all. It’ll be what it’ll be and can be easily rectified. If they show proof great if they don’t then maybe some laminating tests can be done. If there’s been a mistake it can be sorted.
