My working out was that recently a complete 1st ed psa 10 set sold for what $100? Maybe more. I would sell that as is and the other items would be the profit
When your spending a hundred grand you shouldn’t use the numbers from a one off possible sale.
Average cost for the set using medium pokeprice numbers, is about 75k. Selling individually, with costs considered, you’d end up with about 69k. You can see how basing your offer on that one sale wouldn’t be good for your bottom line;)
Discussion is fine for everybody from here on out.
Yes, I estimate the set at $130k and the loose boosters at $1000-1500 apiece. Time is nothing, they are sitting in storage and demand is high enough that once they hit the market they’ll be gobbled up. In a couple years, pricing will be even better. I would expect the compete set to be a private, in person deal so minimum fees.
I would offer at $80k and be willing to begrudgingly max at $100k. That’s like an actual amount I’d pay tomorrow if this wasn’t hypothetical and a large portion of it would be borrowed. Purely an amount I’d pay with 100% intent to flip and I know I’d do extremely well at those prices. If I was out collecting these I would pay more like $120k max.
Glad my valuation was somewhat in line with what the big players would have offered. I think when you’re looking at this you also have to include the probability of significant future growth. If someone bought this lot for straight up market value in 2015 and didn’t flip right away they’d be sitting pretty right about now. We haven’t seen ridiculous growth in 1st edition base recently but it’s also not getting any more common.
If I had enough money where dropping 100k isn’t an issue, my plan would be to buy at a valuation I could profit off of immediately, but I would hold all items until the profit margin had increased. Obviously with that mindset you have to pick a point to sell and can’t plan on infinite growth, but I think based on my knowledge of the hobby I’d have a better than average chance at selling at an opportune time.
My two cents. I’d figure the 31 packs would be between 25-28k wholesale. If the deal ends up going through I’d be happy to buy one of each artwork for $3200 as those are the last one’s I need to complete my collection.
This is pretty much the play I would do. I just don’t know what Gary really wants in this.
I’d pretty much pay market for everything except the boosters and try and get the boosters for free for profit. These cards aren’t hard to sell that the margin needs to be high, and they’re expensive enough that it’s still a $20k-$30k profit or more if I don’t have to flip within a few years.
Whatever that number is you can count me down for that Gary.
$750 for 31 packs is $23,250. There’s easily $20,000+ from the packs that you can liquidate I’m assuming pretty quickly IF the packs are unweighed and in good condition
With two deals that I know of complete 103/102 PSA 10 sets going over $100,000, in addition to everything else being offered, I think around the $90-100k purchase price is a great deal for the buyer. Also given the hopeful future increase in the product too
