Estimated Population of Miraidon Promo 48?

Anyone know about how many of these Miraidon promos were given out back in March? I understand it was for an event where you built a deck from packs and then battled? Any idea how big of an event that might have been?

EDIT: Oops pasted the wrong image first time

The event was for the release of the expansion pack “Triple Beat” and was held in Pokemon Gyms in the whole of Japan.

Basically you have to purchase 15 packs of the new expansion, open them on the spot, make a deck of 40 cards using the cards you just opened and play the tournament.

There were 2 types of tournaments:

  1. 4-participant round robin (can be 3 if the participants were less). Winner of the tournament gets a promo pack containing either the Koraidon or the Miraidon.
  2. After the tournament is over, there was a quick rock-papers-scissors tournament. Winner of that also get a promo pack containing either the Koraidon or the Miraidon.

I am not sure if there was an end date to this (probably when stock of the promo card ran out) or if there were restrictions on the max number of tournaments being held in a week or even in a day. But since this was held in all gym stores across Japan, the population should be significant (multiple thousands?). I think these are expensive because you had to put an effort to get these cards and it was random (not sure if the packs can be searched).

Cheers!

PS. I got really thrown off by your question at first and did not realize you were mentioning the promo number 48 and not the pop estimation of 48. :upside_down_face:

Thank you for then info @mrbubbles thar was very interesting and very helpful!
It does sound like there probably were a lot of these but definitely a lot less than any set card. I’ll have to keep my eyes out for them.
Do you know how tournaments and battles work in Japan. Are they typically held at card shops like they would be here in the US? Would be really cool if there were official pokemon gyms.

Also sorry I didn’t mean to mislead with my title. I can see now it wasn’t a great way to word my question.

As far as I know there are 2 types.

  1. Pokemon Card Gym Battle events. These are officially sponsored by the Pokemon company and can be used as a platform to Enter Worlds since it also links to the Pokemon card trainers league. You can earn CSP (Championship Points) during the various events held. Designated Pokemon Gyms are all over Japan and have their own scheduling. I think there is a Gym finder on the official website, where you can find and participate in events close to you.

  2. Authorized Voluntary events. These are held by card game enthusiasts who know the rules and are capable of holding small scale tournaments and games. These are more like your LCS and are not officially sponsored by Pokemon Company. It can include a lot of things from learning the games, playing tag battles, custom card games etc. More of a casual setting for the entire family and close knit communities.

Besides them, Pokemon company itself usually hosts some classroom sessions on selected location for anyone wanting to learn the game and get good at it. But they are few and sprinkled all over.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for the information mrbubbles that’s really cool and very interesting. I’ll have to try to visit one of these gyms one day when I visit Japan.
