English Only Card Collectors Dealing With Japanese Exclusive

Does any English only card collectors venture into Japanese cards that were never printed in English? I collect Tyranitar cards in PSA 10 exclusively, and have every card minus Aquapolis and Karen’s and Rocket’s Tyranitar from the VS series. I really want to own every Tyranitar card, but the though of buying Japanese cards makes me twitch for some reason.

Here are my two favorite Tyranitars that I own as thanks for reading

I almost always collect the english variant. If however theres a japanese exclusive artwork, I’m definitely going to be getting it as new artworks you’ve never seen before me, greatly interest me.
Example of this is that there are 5 japanese exclusive lvxs never realeased in english that I wanted to add to my lv x binder. Garchomp, porygon, palkia, drapion and Pikachu lv x.

Does it make you twitch because you’re realizing that your wallet will be light ?
is it because of the realization that you would need to invest quite a lot of time and energy to find these cards?
or is it because of another reason?

If you want to own every Tyranitar out there, I would recommend going for the Japanese cards as well!

Most collectors would not consider your set complete if you did not have Japanese-exclusive Tyranitars. However it’s all up to you, if you feel like you’ve reached your goal without Japanese copies then that’s fantastic.

After getting all English TTars in PSA 10, I would think picking up the few Japanese-exclusive copies wouldn’t be too difficult though.

I always encourage english only collectors to give japanese exclusive promos a shot. Since they were never printed in English, they are different than something that was printed in both languages. At least this is the perspective I adopted starting only with wotc cards. I transitioned into Japanese exclusives once I ran out of english.

Aren’t the Japanese cards the most original, more authentic versions anyway? (English cards are generally reprints of lower print quality)

After doing the tyranitars I was going to go back and do all the Pupitar and Larvitars

Japanese cards are awesome dude, besides Pokemon is Japaneez not engrish :new_moon_with_face:, how can you say no to Karen’s T-Tar not only is that Ttar one of the best artworks of ttar it also has Karen on the card which makes it even more awesomer, as Karen is awesome this is a fact.

Tbh for me Japanese cards felt weird at first, but b4 i realized it became mostly what i collected .
The quality is so nice.

With my Bulbasaur collection I am very strict; English and Japanese only (with exception of Base, Dutch Base is love!). You can also go extreme like Quuador and collect every print of every card imaginable. But the VS/Web cards are so amazing I would suggest really giving them a shot.

Once you go JP you never go back

Seconded,

The exclusives that come out in Japan is amazing. Nothing can compare to them.
If you want to be a Pokemon master, you gotta catch em’ ALL

I rarely venture into Japanese cards and only do so if I really enjoy the artwork. For me, I stick with English cards because I can’t read other languages and I don’t feel as involved in the card as I would in English. Unique artwork gives me a few exceptions when the artwork stands out enough to make me want it regardless of the rest of the card and what is going on. It sounds like your collection is primarily centered around the Pokemon depicted, so moving into some unique artwork in a different language is an easier step than being conceptually distant from non-English cards.

I would definitely encourage you to finish it out since you’re only missing a few affordable copies.

Its not too late to learn Japanese~

I spent 11 years taking language courses and they have always been my weakest academic point. Unfortunately, if there is anything that it can become too late to learn it is likely languages barring an extended immersive opportunity.

English will always be the language I was raised with, that my loved ones speak, and that my memories are narrated with. But that’s alright because there are thousands of cards in English for me to enjoy.

Before I transitioned to a full fledged multi language collection, I only collected English Voltorbs and Electrodes. The Japanese exclusives were my only exceptions to the rule for a while until those cards eventually opened up Pandora’s box.

I’d give the Japanese cards a shot, OP. You might grow to love them, and the exclusive artworks are definitely worth it.

I started with an English collection a while back until I decided to go for the Japanese cards cause I have a good friend in Japan who can buy and send me stuff. At first it started out for budget reasons since most of the cards were a lot cheaper (even more so in bulk from Japan and with a friend who can send me stuff for barely any extra costs), but as I grew more familiar with the Japanese cards I ended up fully transitioning to Japanese cards. The amount of exclusives and the nicer print quality won me over. Now that I have a lot of the sets near complete budget reasons are no longer a reason anymore (though still a concern) since all that’s left to collect are the higher end cards lol.

Even if you don’t like jp cards you should really consider buying the karen’s tyranitar for your tyranitar collection, that card looks great =)

Alright I was convinced. Got Karen’s Tyranitar PSA 10 today for $65, a steal I think. Just need Rocket’s Tyranitar PSA 10 and Expedition Reverse Holo #66 then I can move on to finishing my Ho-oh collection!
