Yes, they’re pretty valid, every cheap retro handheld can handle pokemon games up to Emerald. Powkiddy, retroid, anbernic, miyoo are all well known brands, but I suggest yt channels like ‘Retro Game Corps’ to see all the different models and prices range.
Also don’t forget that you can always use an old nintendo ds (or psp) to run emulators. This is what I prefer and use,
