Seeding was done differently than the Singles bracket. Please have a read if you’re curious.

How Bracket Was Seeded

Seeding was done by both @ddk and @silversnorlax204 and players were seeded based on a combination of 1) quality of wins and 2) placement in previous VGC tournaments. We prioritized set wins over raw placements as we felt this gave a fairer indication of skill, whereas placements could be influenced by things like DQs (disqualifications or players withdrawing from the tournament).

Some personal discretion was used, especially for players who hadn’t competed in an E4 tournament before, but we tried to keep this as fair as possible.

Good luck to all VGC players! Reminder, this is a double elimination bracket so if you lose in winners you still have another shot in the losers bracket (check the live bracket link if you need a visual). If you are eliminated before top 8 you will be entered in the single elimination Little Cup bracket for one last shot to win a unique badge!

Seeding you kind of hurt. It was mainly because you only competed in Gen 4 VGC and didn’t beat any players there. This bracket is also insanely stacked and there’s realistically 9 or 10 players who I could see winning.

On the bright side, you can now cause tons of upsets! :smiling_face_with_horns:

Oh my seed is very accurate, I don’t have much of a clue in VGC lol. It’ll be fun all the same, every time I can play a game, I learn something!

To expand on this, I pulled data from the last VGC tournaments and looked at win rate percentages and averaged them between both brackets. Individual game win rate for most players seeder higher was above 50%, with lower seeds at or below 50%. We then had to discuss the “quality of wins” for some of the seeding (is silversnorlax vs a player who just joined really a “good” win for silversnorlax?)

While the seeding is mostly data focused, it is also the brain child of myself and @ddk I’m actually quite curious how the masses would seed. I’m actually in favor of a community “tier list” in the future where we can post our opinions. Just for fun mind you, not for actual seeding :stuck_out_tongue:

I really want to say I love a lot of the teams posted here and I can’t wait to play against them!

Way more Azumarill use than I ever thought would be on final team sheets but here we are. It’s also nice to see a number of perish trap teams and alternate mega evolutions outside of Kang (sorry I’m not original enough myself). That said I almost ran a golbat team that would have been the most terrifying thing in the bracket.

252+ Atk Choice Band Huge Power Azumarill Waterfall vs. 252 HP / 80 Def Eviolite Golbat in Rain: 153-180 (84 - 98.9%) – guaranteed 2HKO

I’m just saying, the bat is the GOAT.

Also noticed the amount of helping hand usage has jumped consideriably for this generation. I wonder if the meta was influenced a bit by the last VGC E4 champion?

I am very sure seeding was hard. Playing a few tournaments puts things into perspective how stacked the whole bracket is. If it was not for Tryson, I would have have been matched with another incredible player, so there is no escape.

That being said, looking forward to playing some good games and putting on a great fight. Wishing everyone else the same!
Have fun!

Cheers!

Yeah I was joking about plying Jimmerr just ironic. It’s hard to sees when some wins are due to DQ

No entertainment value is promised this time.
