I am considering organizing a casual emerald battle factory competition for the hoenn hoes and anyone else who wants to join. Would anyone be interested??

Essentially it would be a competition to see who can get to the highest round in a certain time period, probably a month or two. You’d just play the game normally and submit the record number at the end of the timer.
The only rule is critical! No save states allowed!
This is for fun and casual, anyone can make it to round 200 with save states, part of the fun of the factory is the BS you are served up and how you adapt.
If you are interested, maybe get a save file going up to the frontier so you don’t need to waste time getting there during the competition timer.
Besides that you don’t need anything more than a standard copy of Pokemon emerald. It’s all built into the main game’s post game.
Factory is fairly complicated but very fun so read up if you’re not familiar
It is a fun mode! And this competition would be very different than our other tournaments. Basically you play on your own time and share the results at the end
I’m all for competitive Pokemon. I think there should be a simulator out there for folks who want to play that way as I’m pretty sure I don’t have a cart of emerald.
Might not be for me as I don’t quite have the time to sit and play for hours on end, but would love to see people who can post a run.
I would be open to “climb to the top” ladder runs on something like showdown to see who gets farthest with what for a specific metagame. It’s easier to post battles you’ve had that keep it interesting rather than “I had a streak of 37”.
Now that I’m thinking about it, I think there could be a lot to develop here as we wait for the next official E4 tournament. (Draft league?!)
I still have ptsd about getting my Gold symbol in the Battle Frontier. If I find the time I may join but cannot say for sure right now due to work in the busy holiday period + another Japan trip coming up.
This would be fun as I just recently made it to the battle factory and I have some ev trained mons. Plus as a dad and teacher I need something that I can stop and start. I will say that double team, leech seed ludicolo is EVIL.
Would there be a specific format? Singles? Doubles? Open level or level 50?
Let me know when you would consider starting as I may train up some new mons.
So for factory, you don’t actually need to train up a team. You’re given a draft of 7 Pokemon after each round (7 battles) you get to pick 3 and if you’d like you can swap one after each battle.
They have pre made sets and natures.
I was thinking for the first competition we would do singles battling and if people like it we can do another for doubles sometime.
As for the lv 50/100 divide I’ll leave it to a poll.
Lv 100 is not that much different from 50 with the important differences mainly coming from the types of Pokemon you can encounter.
Mainly the lv 100 challenge comes from an increased number of sets possible for each Pokemon and the inclusion of Tyranitar (and Dragonite but he’s not as game changing as tyranitar) since they evolve over lv 50 they don’t exist in that format.
Tyranitar is a top threat in gen 3 and permanent sandstorm is something to keep in mind
If i can be like banks and find a way to use technology to run, save, and share since i dont have an emerald cartridge, im in.
Mostly… maybe… definitely if i have time… ok yes.
I most likely will not have the time to commit to this and I won’t cheat by giving myself the 50 game headstart on my save from a couple years ago. But fun idea to consider.
Does showdown have a gen 3 randbats format? We could do a separate tourney in that format
I do think that would be fun but the factory isn’t as RNG as it may come across. The thought process in drafting a team from an admittedly random set is very fun and thought provoking.
So when you come up against a bad matchup in the factory you can’t 100% blame RNG, you have to think about how you draft each time
Have you considered uploading a save file of Emerald that has the Battle Factory unlocked? That would allow people to jump right in without needing to get to the post game.
