E4 Chess Tournament! All Players Welcome! (REGISTRATION OPEN!)

WELCOME TO THE E4 Chess Tournament!

I’ve mentioned in a earlier thread that I might host a E4 chess tournament, and I think now is a better time than ever! I’ll be posting the rules and info later on, but this is currently registration period:

REGISTRATION:
Deadline - end of September

Late Grace - (3 days)

SECTIONS:

Over 1000: Single Elim! This is a more competitive airspace, so I decided on single elim!

Under 1000: Arena! This is for less experienced players, so you guys can focus on having fun!

Good luck and please notify me if you are joining here (extra points if you use a introductory quote/saying)

Don’t get discouraged, chess is a tough game and players don’t always overlap with E4 members. Give it a bit of time, your tournament is a interesting idea!
Even ddk had some difficulties finding VGC players, considering it’s summer and many aren’t really active on the forum

I’m interested! But I think arena or swiss tournament are the best formats. That way you get to face many different people. With single elimination only one match is guaranteed

Which time format?

I like chess, I will play any format as long as it is not during my sleepy time.

I’m interested in principle, but how will it work in terms of different timezones (eg: me in Japan vs guy in New York)?

Will it be on weekends?

What will the time controls be?

Both sections are 10 minutes

Time controls are 10 minutes, I’ll try to do a set average date and time that most people can play, so don’t hesitate to DM me about it!

You can use the same principle that we do for scheduling our VGC games. Just get in touch with your bracket opponent and schedule games when both are very comfortable and also available. Easier to find common time that way rather than a forced or fixed time schedule.

Cheers!

All good, thanks for the interest!

Best of luck with sign ups, Vert (soon you’ll learn the pains of organizing a tournament)! Maybe @smpratte would be interested as I recall he played.

Yeah I could potentially play! It’s just about when I have a window of time.

Sign me up. IMO, @Vertemes you build the brackets and allow the opponents to coordinate a time to play eachother - give approximately 1-2 weeks for each bracket round to conclude. Be flexible on the time constraints!

Also single elimination isn’t a popular choice.

I’m probably going to do Swiss!

Swiss is a good option if you don’t get too many sign ups. Allows people to get a fair amount of games in, even if they are eliminated early.

I’d play too, maybe there needs to be a new discord server for people who want to play, I’m rated 1550 in rapid, 1800 in bullet, would be good to match people of similar elos to start with, or just get a server going that has members who enjoy playing, and once it’s filled up enough, then start to think about hosting a tournament? I’m in some error discord servers, and we’ve made one for chess before, but new players would be awesome.
