I have both, actually. They’re basically the same thing, except I find that the Monster binder’s card sheets are sized better for Yu-Gi-Oh cards than they are for Pokemon. Pokemon cards do fit, however, just the snugness might worry a few people, but I don’t think it affects it. Also, the Ultra Pro Premium is much more readily available and a fraction of the price. Either way, however, you can’t go wrong.
Just remember to try to lay the binders flat since the binder isn’t rigid like a cardboard one. I have mine stacked on the top shelf in my closet and have had no problems with them. However, if they’re upright, I don’t see much bad coming from it. It’s just good to be paranoid sometimes.
They’re great because when you put a sleeve in it, since it’s side-loading, the card won’t come out of the sleeve. Also, they don’t fall out of the pages, and they don’t move around. Plus, they look sick as hell.
To answer the question: No I would not even put a Goldeen from Jungle in a ring binder. Let alone a rare card. I’ve bought some collections from people who collected back in the old days and the cards where always stored in a ring binder and most of the time some cards had dents.
When I can get my hands on a rare card that isn’t graded it will go in a 4-pocket binder. I never grade cards because I live in Europe and it will cost too much and I don’t really care for it.
I believe it was Viper.fox who mentioned the PVC harming the ink of the cards. It will take years to have effect, but I’m planning on keeping my collection for decades .
So if PVC is in the seal from league Promo’s, I can’t preserve them the right way when I keep them sealed.
Is this the same with the seal from Booster Boxes and Theme Decks?
Well, if they’re sealed, and you plan to keep them sealed, you really can’t know the condition of the cards. For all you know they could all have gotten trashed in the printing process. So you really don’t have to worry about the PVC affecting the cards since their condition doesn’t affect the value, or the appearance, of the pack itself.
All I hoped to accomplish was awareness of the potential dangers of card storage. We all love our collections and need to be aware of any possible dangers.
For many, condition means little even in regards to future value. To them I say, “Display and handle your cards in any manner you like…and have fun with it.” It’s fine for them as long as they’re aware of the other side if it.
An example: when I was a kid I loved the Dodgers and opened many packs hoping to find the guys on my favorite team. Some of the cards I kept in better condition (ie; they didn’t end up in my spokes:) cause I needed them to be flat or not bent. The reason was that we used to sling cards at a wall, frisby style, and the closest card to the wall won everyone else’s card. The flatter your card was the more accurate its flight.
As a side note…ill never forget losing my Koufax and Drysdale card in the same afternoon.
So, whether you’re obsessive about condition or mildly careful, always enjoy it. There’s a good chance your memories will outlive your collection. They did with my treasured dodger cards;)
Back to topic, I thought of a way to store my single cards and came across this only problem now is that it does not fit toploaders just penny sleeves… Should I still get one?
I think that that would be great for bulk holos/rev holos, but I wouldn’t put anything of value in that due to the lack of toploader. It all depends on what you have. If you buy bulk cards and sell them individually then yes, that would be fantastic.
I don’t get why this is in Everything Else, shouldn’t it be in General Board?
I’m considering abandoning my use of tape when I send out packages. If I can find bulk team bags at a decent price I’ll go for it! You’ve had an effect on me Gary
The ungraded cards that I sell always go inside a penny sleeve then in a toploader. Then in goes inside a team bag before it is package. I would usually tape the team bag in a cardboard to prevent it from moving. Then it either goes inside a padded envelope or box for shipping.
You had me cheering on my feet until you used the “T” word. Sometimes ill put the top loader or card saver between folded cardboard then use a sheet of Saran Wrap to secure it.
