Say you send a pre scan cert slab for reholdering, will they make scans of the card for the website?
I am finding conflicting info on the internet. Psa doesn’t specifically mention nor deny it

Yep! I reholdered an old cert slab last year and they added a new scan on the website
Lovely.
Second question, keep hearing conflicting infos about this aswell
Some say that if you send to reholder a vintage card which is a psa 10 but battered because of a bad grader or ancient grading standarts, they might downgrade it and refund you the difference with you having no say in this.
Is this real life? What if i bought the card during the bullmarket and send it to reholder during a bearmarket and get financially obliterated?
That’s what i heard time ago as well. That they will downgrade your card and pay you the difference. Would like to know from someone who knows more about this.
They don’t regrade the card during a reholder. This only happens if there is damage to the case on or near the card.
Its probably a conflict of opinions because they are talking about different services.
PSA has a review service where they charge you if you think it deems a better grade, and the reholder service which just gets an updated slab with the same cert.
I’m quite curious about this too. Like you, I’ve heard some stories online of cards coming back with lower grades. I was at the Toronto card expo this past weekend and was about to find out for myself but I missed the onsite grading deadline by 30minutes. I asked one employee I saw standing outside the booth and they said it should stay a ten while not seeming too sure about it.
I have a low pop 2 cert card that I just want in a fresh slab. It would likely not be a 10 with today’s standards. The card also has no recent sales data so it would be a complete mess if it were to come back with a lower grade.
Go with the reholder service, and it stays the same grade as they dont regrade it. Review service if you think it needs a new grade. Cert stays the same.
What is your motivator for getting a new label and new slab? There is a risk of loss or damage shipping to and from PSA, as well as damage while in PSA’s hands. If it’s that low pop, I wouldn’t chance losing something nearly irrreplacable.
Also it’s like $40 to reholder by the time you factor in return shipping
I’d just like to say anyone who reholders a 0x cert card is on my list ![]()
Good to know. A lot of people sound confident so that’s good to hear. I was ready to risk it with on site grading to avoid shipping but I was definitely still nervous about it.
The stories I saw online about cards coming back with lower grades were apparently reholder but maybe there were details left out or just false stories entirely.
If you are ever still unsure email PSA for extra clarity! Good luck. Show us the card sometime if you feel like it!

If PSA opens up your slab and puts a dent in it or indents it during encapsulation, it will come back a 6 with a sorry note and the “difference in value” from a 10 to a 6. Sounds like you wouldn’t have a strong case to document the realistic value for the 10
Yeah, that’s why I was looking to do same day on site grading. It’s expensive but less hassle.
The slab has a cosmetic issue in the bottom corner. Some interior cracking that isn’t visibly appealing either. I believe the previous owner clamped the corner with one of those magnetic slab cases. While I may just learn to love it, I don’t like having it in a somewhat fragile state.
That is concerning because PSA can use that to say the card was damamged from the “broken” slab.
I recommend onsite where PSA does it in front of you if that is even a thing
It’s down at the bottom away from the card. Toronto expo is back in April I believe. I might think about attempting the reholder then.
I would honestly ask PSA what will be the verdict with the damage to the slab. Theyll give you the best answer just for 100% certainty of your outcome just in case.
Solid suggestion! I think PSA would come back with “we will need to see it to make a determination” - which is more than fair to not make a guarantee on something they haven’t touched yet.
I will likely do this at the next expo. Hopefully I can find someone there close enough to operations that can give me 100% certainty. Thanks for the input.
I have reholdered many slabs. None have received a downgrade. I don’t know where the rumor started, but it’s not true to my knowledge.
If they damage your card when reholdering, yes it will get downgraded and you will be compensated.
