Do you think the market trend is about to reverse?

To be honest, I don´t think Pokémon is going anywhere. Too much big players involved, and too much publicity.

Probably not, but I also don’t think the literal millions of people hoarding modern product are gonna have generational wealth in 5-10 years. I do however think that rare & vintage cards will continue to rise over time. There’s a BIG difference between people like Pratte, Gary and Jolina with genuine grails and people like Nomics, Redbeard, and Chomp shilling the same overprinted, overhoarded modern crap

There’s also the question even with vintage of “if the market slows down for an extended period of time, who’s going to stay and who’s gonna cash out”? I’d wager that while people like Pratte and Gary who have been in the scene forever would absolutely stay the course, moonshot-seeking dudebros like Shivam and Kenlee would probably dip. Long term I think vintage will be fine as the Prattes and Garys of the world will keep it afloat, but the loss of the Shivams and Kenlees of the world will be felt in the short term.

Like any other market, Bulls and Bears get fed, the Greedy get slaughtered, the tide is going out, and the bear market will be here for a while.

It´s not just about the OG fans. You have to look at Pokémon as an entity. It´s big. But I do agree that modern is more shaky. The big difference is two things; more prints, more hype.

anyone hoarding modern sealed hasnt sold a thing in their life sealed is a pita to sell online where u will get the most value out of anything

unless u wanna dump at like 80% max to some vendor bro at a con

that and the fact that end consumer of sealed product will ultimately be some gambling bro

also does pwcc even take sealed pokemans after they got burned a few years ago they seem fine with taking sealed sports bro product

I still think there’s way more people than many of us realize who are in this solely in pursuit of exponential gains and generational wealth. And I don’t know how many of those people would stay the course if the market were to slow down for an extended period of time.

Keep in mind that if the market were to continue to grow at the pace it’s been growing since late 2024 for another 2 years, we’d be looking at boxes pushing $1k on release, random vintage cards pushing a million dollars a pop for PSA10s, and grails pushing $10m by late 2028.

It´s very probable that the growth won´t last forever (nothing does, right?) but if Pokémon cements itself as a staple (like other wanted things such as gold) there´s no reason to think it will change. It´s not that weird to think of certain PSA 10´s (1st editions, Gold Stars ect.) reaching very high numbers. Don´t just focus on the PSA 10, the top of the iceberg. There´s PSA 9´s too, and lower. There will always be affordable (graded) cards.

I think that the more steady, and less hype-driven Pokémon is, the more people will feel comfortable continuing to put money in. The more it feels like it’s just influencer hype / constant ups and downs, the more people who otherwise might want to take part will stay away. The default is for it to grow, because the phenomenon of its user base still having more money to spend over time will continue, and the longer it goes, the more credibility it gains and as a result confidence in spending in the category.

It might seem crazy to think it, but I still think Pokemon (even now) is quite possibly undervalued in many ways. We’re still way smaller than the Sports card market at this point, and painfully small compared to things like numismatics (coins) and artwork, despite a lot of recent growth.

A lot of cards/sets have very well established trends at this point over the past 10-20 years. Pretty much every big price drop along the way with most cards has been bought up or eventually gone higher than the previous peaks. It’s overall very healthy/organic in Pokemon across the board.

Obviously, there’s been some hype and short term ‘bubbles’ that have popped up with certain cards/sets (especially in Modern). But as long as you don’t buy into that type of noise and take your time with it, you’re likely in a good spot with most cards you buy long-term.

There’s some pretty good data we can look at now, and the predicted growth for collectibles seems realistic to me. If anything, I think the growth could actually be higher as people continually prioritize physical assets over a lot of paper/digital assets:

Collectibles Market Size, Share & Growth Trends 2026-2032

I think that if younger people feel priced out of traditional assets like stocks or Real Estate that were easier to acquire at one point, they only have so many places to park money, and I think increasingly it will be collectibles or similar items. In addition, a lot of wealthy individuals are buying into collectibles more as they sell off overvalued stocks or other assets like crypto as a way to ‘diversify’ and shield from unknown AI & inflation risks.

Cant sense it’s slowing down yet

PF charizard is still hovering around $2k? With 31k psa10s…
I cant believe that. And the 9 price is also very strong and high pop. And then looking at the pops and prices at non psa companies,
It might be the highest market cap pokemon card and it just came out
Is there any pokemon card thats more valuable?

This is a modern release that is just killing it. Doesnt feel like the market is slowing down at all

Van Gogh Pikachu is around $3,000 with a PSA 10 pop of 50,000

Yea that one as well. Just insanity
Although PF zard may eventually pass if they keep doing reprints since its not that hard to pull

Regardless the market just looks too healthy. And we know the 30th will be crazy.
I think we wont know if the market will truly slow down until may of next year. I anticipate the winter to be strong per usual. Lets just see how much this can be sustained into next year when the dust settles

I’ve been complaining about the PSA 10 premium for years and have truly never understood it. In a way, these record prices of PSA 10 middle era Ex, reverse holos and Lv X don’t feel any different. PSA 10 prices have always made my head scratch.

They made more sense years ago. Most were 2x - 5x PSA 9 prices and then you had cards which had decades worth of sales history and less than 0.5% graded 10 populations having the crazy 100x multipliers (T17, Neo Rev Ampharos etc.).

Now it seems any otherwise undesirable card can just become T17 overnight because it’s a 10. Nothing feels organic anymore.

Market in general has been interesting

Feels that Poketuber sentiment has been that modern is crashing/the bubble popped…but at the same time booster boxes are still pretty much at MSRP for Perfect Order, Pitch Black and Chaos Rising. That’s still a lot higher than previous generations given there few months of being released. Heard Worlds was slammed and only were allowed 1 turn at the shop. Interest still seems off the charts.

Graded market to me feels largely impacted from “gotcha” slab repacks. A lot of the promos and cards e4 have enjoyed for years have now seen pretty substantial gains. With the shutdown/slow down of PSA…the only way these repack companies can really replenish slabs are in the secondary market. Gambling has now become a huge part of US society and clearly a big money maker for these slab companies.

How long did NFTs last? Pokemon’s been dialed to wumbo for less than a year. I wouldnt hold my breath

Tbf, this chart was from 2025. Now, in terms of the most valuable item in the hobby ($16.5m), we’ve beaten sports cards ($12.93m) and stamps ($9.48m), and we’re not far off from numismatics ($18.9m). Not to mention, Fanatics Fest this year was around 80% Pokémon. Fascinating how quickly the tides have turned - we’ve gone from being behind all 4 last year, to being ahead of sports cards and stamps, and quickly approaching numismatics territory.

Of course, we have a LOOOOONG way to go before we get anywhere near art ($450.3m!!!). Not sure if we’ll ever get there, but would be absolutely wild if we do.
