Do psa actually check the card when they grade it?

Dickhead cat graded by PSA?

ā€œPSA gives PSA 8 to card with penis drawn on itā€ would have had me clicking this topic immediately.

I assumed this was an ordinary grievance about damage which is a conversation I’ve read 750 million times. To my surprise it’s actually quite entertaining.

Wait, when did Logan Paul start signing cards?

People will often say they value stricter grading but in reality that is not how it plays out. The fact that a PSA 10 is relatively easy to acquire is a huge asset to the company. It means sellers are incentived to submit and buyers have more opportunities to get the ā€œhighest grade possibleā€. And it works because ultimately sellers care more about profit and buyers care more about ego than either does about the actual condition of the card.

With PSA, they are also grading like half a million cards a month. That’s half a million more than probably every German company combined. There are probably plenty of small little startups that grade way more consistently than PSA but it’s because they have a small team (or 1 person) that knows way more about grading than the average minimum wage PSA employee. But that doesn’t scale up. It’s like trying to compare HƤagen-Dazs to a small-batch ice cream company.

It’s a bit exaggurated but probably true. ā€œPSA makes a mistakeā€, I’ve seen it dozens if not hundreds of times by now. This is not even the first or second time I’ve seen a slabbed dick drawing in a PSA case. CGC grades 1% of the volume of PSA so you get 1% of the delicious mistakes. That plus CGC has kind of built a public perception that lends itself to schadenfreude.

This is a hard card to grade so I am not surprised it only received an 8. It will be difficult to penetrate the market for those who are looking to gain a large position with this card (a game of inches, if you will). I would expect a hard and fast pump in the coming weeks, which will result in many investors and speculators coming. The demand will definitely rise, and at the climax we can expect this card’s prices will be shooting up everywhere.

I have a probably pop 1 psa card because it doesn’t exist.

They labeled a reverse holo as a holo. They will make mistakes and given the volume of cards they deal with they are likely to make the most mistakes.

I’d just prefer if it was always funny or novelty mistakes they made though

Yeah, this is why I actually liked the BGS proposed changes, then they could actually hand out 10s like PSA and have a chance. Right now why the heck would I submit to anyone but PSA (except for high-end cards which PSA is too expensive for), when PSA hands out 10s more often than the rest of them?

And honestly, PSA grades just as many ā€œbank errors in your favor, collect PSA 10ā€ as they do hand drawn ā€œartā€ on persians.

I would rather have more money when selling, than less.

Maybe the PSA employee thought it was an artist signature :man_shrugging:

So what you’re saying is if I draw on my card there’s a chance they’ll still grade it? :eyes:

Yes but it’ll create a pen and ink

I can see how grading that’s too strict can be a deterrent, because people end up disappointed if they never get a 10 back. But I think there’s a sweet spot between getting a 10 too easily and never getting a 10. Because if a company is known to hand out 10s for obviously subpar cards, their service becomes worthless (there’s also a different German grading company that has a reputation for doing this).
