You Have 10 Free CGC “Walk Through” Grades. Send What???

For non CGC graders or collectors only. If you only have a few then it’s okay.

Assume you never graded nor owned a CGC graded card but have many PSA and BGS graded cards.

CGC offered you 10 free walkthrough grades (current value $1,250.00) for cards 1999 to present.

Now look at your current collection, both graded and ungraded, and pick which 10 cards you’d send in for this free deal and post them here.

Did CGC offer you free grading or is this purely a hypothetical?

Personally, I wouldn’t send anything older than XY era. I’d probably send some newer Japanese SRs like the Zards from Star Birth.

Being a relatively new collector my options are limited… I’d go with a mixture of the Classic Collection from Celebrations and a handful of ultra rares from Evolving Skies.

doomed for harsh grades no matta what

Honestly, the best thing to do would be open a few booster boxes of Brilliant Stars and then send in the best hits. Sending in any of my vintage cards is a losing game in the long run.

This is a trick question! Regardless of what you send, it’ll be worth less once its graded. I wasn’t in the mood for logic puzzle but this one was fun!

But… if I did send anything, it would be 1997 carddass or topsun cards. They look so good graded and I would love… oh wait they don’t grade those for some reason but they will grade cards that are stolen from the factory or cards that were never supposed to exist in the first place.

I never accuse people of anything but I’m just curious as to why you specified CGC and and the dollar amount. I don’t want to be part of a focus group for CCG or CGC but this kinda feels like that TBH.

Modern Japanese promos and error cards.
It’s not worth it to send wotc and get an 8.5.

None. I will not have anything from a company that legitimizes stolen goods in my collection for any price.

None because all my cards will stay in my binders

Maybe send things that you are fine cracking and re-grading with PSA? Or just rough cards you want authenticated?

CGC is only good to pre-grade since they go out of their way to not give anything a 10 any more. If you are only sending them 10 cards, the odds are that over-all, CGC will be devaluing your 10-card collection with 9s and 9.5’s.

Hmmm that makes sense. I’ll try some 7 or 8 quality.

Curious as to why this would be the case? Surely it would be bad for business in the medium to long term.

Blue cards DO look better with the CGC slab.

Maybe e-reader era reverse holos too, except, their values would suffer… :slightly_frowning_face:

OOooh! Yeah, Mystical Archive would look sexy in those cases! And minimal value anyway.

Nothing cause having your cards raw is better than having them slabbed with CGC

I don’t know if this was supposed to be serious but CGC are considerably harsher with their grading, but are very inconsistent around the 8 and 8.5 mark.

I like buying cheap cgc 9.5s and cracking them, it’s a shame as the blue slab is nice, pre grades are nice but damn them lasers don’t give up high scores like ever.

To answer original question, I’d send 10 lances Charizard which is a card I’m trying to get a 10 in, but is an absolutely appalling quality control card and I’d look for which of my best attempts got a 9.5 then crack it.

He just needs to send cards in better condition.
