Most of the sheets were snuck out of Wizards where they were meant to either be cut into cards or destroyed.
It could be considered immoral to keep the sheets intact;)
Except in this instance, if a card is being advertised as and error or miscut it is a bit unethical if the owner cuts the card themselves. It would not be an error or misprint at that point, just an altered item to make more profit.
I’ve never agreed with the idea of sneaking things outside of companies really, even if it has given us some absolute gems to the collecting community, so yeah, you could apply what I said as a blanket statement to the whole thing, from sneaking the cards out, to cutting them oneself for profit.
Pre-Release Raichu was given out to employees of Wizards as presents after the accident. Technically, it’s no different than giving out a trophy card at a competition, to me, as what people choose to do with a trophy card once awarded is up to them.
This is something completely different. People are basically making their own ‘error’ cards and it’s seen as legit. That isn’t cool.
That is a good distinction. We should all have the same perspective when it comes to altering an item and falsely advertising it as a legitimate error. That is why I posted the pikachu card because it was obviously taken from a sheet and is not an actual error/miscut card.
A card is not an error just because it was intentionally cut square. The only error was by wizards by letting most these sheets illegally get out of their plant. I’m starting to think ALL sheets should be cut cause their illegally being possessed lol.
Yes there’s a couple of exceptions…sheets that were meant to be given out. Can you all name them???
Oh that is a good question. The fossil is the obvious answer, kbtoys (R.I.P.). The neo common sheets are common but I don’t know the story behind them.
