Did Australia have Pokémon cards in the country prior to Red logo?

They were doing some very funky things over here in Australia haha!

Awesome to have the date on that uncut sheet, gives us a bit of data to work with. That would be 1st April 2000.

I totally forgot but I’ve actually got an uncut sheet of red logo jungle commons. It’s dated 2000 but I can’t recall the month and day. I’ll have to check when I get home from work so we can figure out how close the Aussie base and jungle sets were being produced

That would be amazing thank you!

The Chinese and Korean Base Set packs had Red Logos as well. Coincidentally, unlimited edition Korean Base Set packs are thought to only have been released in some parts of Australia, and never in South Korea. (Of course, the 1st edition Korean and both Chinese editions were released in their respective countries, and also had red logos.)

Here they are next to the other languages, to see the difference in logo:

They’re most known to have come from the UK, but Australia had 1999-2000 English booster packs as well (as already mentioned by @cwebfan23); Poland had them as well, usually with a Polish sticker on the back (including ‘Made in U.K.’):

And even the USA had a very brief 1999-2000 release.

More info about all the Base Set booster packs can be found in this excellent article thread:

Do we happen to know much about the contents of the 1999-2000 australian base set packs? Were they all on par with red logo product for card quality?

All red logos were manufactured in Australia from my understanding.

Ping me anytime anywhere and I can try to help if you have questions. The guide linked is my best guess at all Base set booster packs after about 5 years of research. I still don’t mention 1 variant, but will try to add it when I can get high quality scans.

The 1st edition shadowed uncut sheet is copyright 1999. Australia came out with 1999-2000 dates so it would be a very early prototype or not for Australia. I actually have a GodBook which depicts this set as well but have yet to share that in detail. I shared a single card previously.

I have acquired about a dozen packs I plan on ripping for science with microscope, black light, and other analysis. There are clear differences between Base English, UK, and Australia prints but grading companies don’t want to recognize them.

USA had one version, Australia had one version, and UK had 5 versions I have found. I don’t know if they each contain different cards, but I suspect 3 of them do contain subtle differences. The biggest being the presence of Copyright 1999 holos or Copyright 1999-2000 holos. You can easily see physical differences in color saturation and subtle things like font borders which differentiate the prints. CGC/PSA/TAG/ETC still don’t recognize them for some reason. I have reached out a few times but it goes absolutely nowhere. Best example is Spanish had two versions for 1st edition and Unlimited. It has given me extremely mixed feelings on grading companies as they are clearly not interested in the cards.

I’m gonna shoot you a PM

So I’ve had a look at my uncut sheet. Printed 21/3/2000 but also has 23/3/2000 on it.

However as evidenced by the writing in permanent marker, finalising the product still had not occurred on 29/6/2000.

Australia wouldn’t have and couldn’t have had red logo packs on their shelves until at least late 2000

Thats a hell of a long turnaround time, am I understanding this right that it took three months for Them to inspect this sheet? And do we think that because of this wait time, maybe all of Australia’s cards prior to red logo and B2K are from the USA?

Yes definitely, It’s clear now that Australia received only American printed fossil and jungle cards on release of those sets in Australia.

It’s not clear why the Australian factory decided to print these cards well past their release dates, when retailers were likely heavily discounting the sets to try move them as newer sets had been released.
