Damaging your cards stories

I see nothing wrong here.

In the DP days, I bought one of those Arceus tins with an Arceus LV.X promo up front.

The packaging used left it’s usual dent in the top of the card (very minor on this particular one), so I had the genius idea of flattening it out…by rolling a chunky dumbbell over the top edge like a rolling pin.

You can guess how that idiocy went.

I put a subtle crease into my no rarity poliwrath a little over a year ago. I did it on purpose though. There was at the time 0 in the pop report for PSA 2. I wont know til my subs back if i was rough enough, or too rough.

Back before I understood card values, I pulled several stormfront charizard by random chance and assumed they weren’t too rare. I sold a couple of em for like $4, and the last one I shoved in my wallet. After a few years it was damaged, but not too terribly.

Eventually, one of my favorite local stores had a campaign where you can turn your favorite trading card, or really anything, into their point card. I taped up my charizard to effectively laminate it, then on the back they placed a sticker with a barcode. Honestly not upset about it, because I think that’s one of the best cards you can have as a points card. Always a conversation starter when I show that bad boy off at the counter haha!

Years back I was with my kids spending time on a campground. We were playing some Pokemongames to practice for Nationals.
Suddenly there was a gust of wind and my Tyranitar EX (Unseen Forces) flew of the table. I caught it between my knees. However it bend double.
Good catch mom is what the boys said and they laughed.
Good memory.

We have damaged so many cards during those 20 years of playing, but this one was to good.
Both my sons were in the finals of Nationals, in the same age group.
The youngest always has a lot of luck, the oldest doesn’t. But that year the oldest played Flygon (Holon Phantoms)and it went smoot.
Off course both were arguing again about who was going to win that year. And they did met in finals.
The oldest had such a good run that day he declared he would eat a flygon if his brother would win that year.
Well he lost and I offered him some salt and pepper…
He did indeed take the card out of the sleeves and ate a corner off it.
So funny, I don’t remember if I kept the remains of that card, but the memory is gold.

Grew up with very thrifty parents, so spending $3-5 on 10 pieces of cardboard was entirely out of the question…except the one time we were at the mall with friends and I guilted my parents into buying a pack for me because “everyone else is getting one.” It was my first pack ever. It was some variation of base with Blastoise pack-art. I pulled a Blastoise. Neither of the two other kids pulled a holo. I felt like a king. I held it gently in my hands for the entirety of the mall trip until we get home. Like any other kid, I had grimy fingers and left some oil smudges on the card. I actually owned a couple penny sleeves (I have no idea from how or from where) and decided I would clean the card off before I sleeved it to keep it safe forever. *Boot-up 9-year-old-brain.exe* Cleaning does not mean gently wipe it down with a cloth. Cleaning means putting it under the faucet and running water straight on it while scrubbing it with my fingers. You’ve all seen those wrinkly water-damaged cards. Yup.

To this day, I tell myself that it was an unlimited non-shadowless Blastoise to make myself feel better.
