It does, I simply made a second distinction for non holo cards my personal collection. I saw it as a common enough occurance that I wanted to collect both, and wanted to group them into different categories. Like I said in the third paragraph it’s only a product of my own doing.
For those that don’t know about the actual thick/thin varience they’re only available in the holo version of the cards. There’s some guids online if you search it.
@not Zelda Gilroy
Yes I have both varients of the stamps on the same card which what I beleive you’re getting at.
I’ve been pretty busy, I’ll try and create time for some new posts here. Maybe after I’ve listed some new additions to my store I’ll scan up some cards from my collection as well, since I’ll already have my scanner out. Not sure when that will be.
After a long time not posting anything new I decided to reward your patience with some good things.
Gem Mint 1995 Topsun Holofoil Nidoqueen
Appeal of Artwork ***
I really like the holofoild and the background styling of these set. The only issue is the stock art, even though cool still has to take the hit. History of Card ****
Topsun cards are the first Pokemon Cards. I’d say any time your the first that’s pretty cool, so being the first holofoil? Even cooler. Cards Rarity ***
The Topsun holofoils come in about one out of every ten packages of gum, just trying to find mint condition common cards is hard. That makes this card a rarity for sure. Keeping to my guidelines though I’d have to give it two stars, but this is one that I just couldn’t do in good faith.
**Appeal of Artwork ***Stock, with some boring background what do you want me to say?****History of Card ********First official release of the Pokemon TCG doesn’t get much better. ****Cards Rarity *******Technically these were mass produced, but with only two weeks of it this deserves the exception.
Appeal of Artwork **
Original Pikachu pose, with a bland background that doesn’t go with the character. History of Card ****
Here’s your first promo released, if you don’t see the trend of what I think about something being first then you’re not paying attention. Cards Rarity ****
Rare card indeed, and in this condition very hard to find.
So you are pretty indifferent about the first of something.
Nice update! Your style is makes a good connection with the reader. That pikachu illustration always hits home for me as it was the first promo I ever received (from local toysrus league).
I didn’t know that Topsun cards came with pieces of gum. That is pretty cool as sports cards used to be like that. When I was a kid I would want the packs with gum. As if you couldn’t get bubble gum for almost free anywhere, I preferred to get the crappiest kind for 300 times the price.
Anyway, very nice update. The Gem mints make them all the sweeter!
Yup. And I think stock art is pretty cool! It’s classic and original even though we’ve seen it plenty of times I would prefer these illustrations over the newer mock creative ones any time!
I know this jumps off topic but…
I have to give a double thumbs up to this. This I’m sure is why most all of us are here collecting, at least the adult collectors. I collected pokemon has a kid and got super excited about even simple cards back then. I would have only dreamed as a kid to own a base set Charizard, I wanted it so bad. My collection back then was nothing to write home about. So about 3 years ago I had this nostalgic feeling and started thinking back to all those good years as a kid. I decided to get that Charizard I always wanted. I bid on ebay, won it, and the rest is history. Now I have a PSA 9, and non graded NM/Mint, and a Shaddowless. (Granted others here have well beyond that, but the point is comparing to my own childhood). Obviously my wallet has gotten bigger, but I collect these things because frankly I miss being a kid and I had a dang good childhood. And I love thinking about those times and having like you said eleutherarch, a little of that excitement back that I had as a little boy. I think sometimes this isn’t entirely about the Pokemon themselves, but rather wanting to be back in the “good old days” for a little while.
Back on topic. Culler your collection is amazing. I agree with smpratte that I like your style of presenting and narrating the cards as you post them.
It’s all about the good old days. We’re all here right now because of nostalgia
I believe Pokemon card collecting will grow as a hobby. There’s a whole generation of us who will soon be seeing disposable income as they get settled into their lives and careers. Pokemon WAS the 90’s and early 2000’s and nostalgia will drive many of those young adults to spend their disposable income on recapturing a piece of their childhood. Be it a Charizard card or a whole card collection, people are going to keep coming back to Pokemon, and Pokemon cards since they were so widespread and influential.
Well said. I hope you’re right. I mean as much as I like getting good deals on cards, having more people into collecting them makes it more fun.
I’m curious, cbd1235, how old are you? I myself am 23 going on 24 and I think your disposable income theory is a good one.
Hmmm maybe we should start a story/age thread where you share your age and story/fond memories of when you first got into pokemon. Maybe even share your childhood favorite cards/pokemon/characters etc. It could be really fun for us all to reminisce together. I think I’ll start that thread. Where should I put it?
Start the thread in the “everything else” section and I’ll be the first to reply . It would be good to share a bit about ourselves (on a voluntary basis obviously)
As a follow up to smpratte’s post about not knowing what topsun card came with, I thought I’d share a few sealed packages of Gum.
Sealed 1995 Topsun Gum Package
Appeal of Artwork **
If you take a look at the video game cover artwork you might recognize this artwork. So not entirely original, but the split side by side gives it a little uniqueness. History of Card ****
If I gave this a different ranking then the card inside, I’d have a very hard time defending it. Cards Rarity **
While the cards inside might justify a three star if it’s holo, the package doesn’t. Still it’s a hard item to find, so be prepared to search if you’re going to add one to your collection.
Appeal of Artwork ****
While the 1995 version was pretty boring, this one has a lot more going for it. I unique design is all I ask for and here you are. History of Card **
A few years later then the original. So I don’t mind knocking the history ranking. Cards Rarity **
Like the 1995 version this, one is still mass produced, but good luck in a quest to find a sealed gum wrapper from 1997.
Appeal of Artwork *****
I really like the whole artwork of this card. It has a unique image, the background work with the character art, and it’s just really fun to look at. History of Card ***
While it doesn’t have the same history bump that it’s non glossy version would receive. This reprint deserves some prestige for being a card that can be placed in a Japanese or English card collectors collection. Cards Rarity **
Being massed produced in a magazine doesn’t help your rarity stock.
